Christopher Nolan's Odyssey Is Already Fulfilling Its Post-Oppenheimer Promise

Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated next film will be an adaptation of The Odysseyand he is already fulfilling the promise he made about his post-Oppenheimer to work. The Odyssey is an epic poem by Homer about the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, embarking on a treacherous journey home after the Trojan War. Nolan is returning to work with his Oppenheimer Universal partners to make The Odyssey – a no-brainer after its marketing campaign secured it a nearly billion-dollar box office success and Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture – which is slated for an IMAX release in July 2026.

As is typical of Nolan, The Odyssey brought together a star-studded cast, including celebrities such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron. Nolan's film will adapt Homer's ancient text into a full-scale Hollywood blockbuster with lots of action and spectacle. It promises to be one of his biggest, most ambitious films to date – and that means he's already delivering on the promise he made when he finished Oppenheimer.

By positioning himself as the Homer of cinema, Nolan is aiming high with The Odyssey.
