Christopher Nolan’s film and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 are bad news for this long-awaited sequel to their 1 million film

Although news of a collaboration between Tom Holland and Christopher Nolan is huge and exciting, it seems to be a bad omen for a long-awaited sequel that appears to be nowhere in sight. October 2024 was an exciting month for Tom Holland as the young star launched his own line of non-alcoholic beers, confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is set to go into production soon and now he will star in an upcoming film from legendary Hollywood director Christopher Nolan. Nolan’s track record has seen him not only produce some of the most impressive films of all time, but also train major talent for Oscar-winning performances.

While this is clearly exciting for Holland and the secret collaboration is exciting for fans of the director’s work, it appears to have some downsides. Mainly, for projects that are outside of Nolan’s next film and the MCU. Holland’s attachment to the Spider-Man character means the young star will be stuck working with the studio for years to come, but some of his less notable films, such as Unknown may suffer the weight of being pushed back due to these developments.

Tom Holland now has a busy schedule between Nolan’s film and his upcoming MCU

Tom Holland will have a full roster in the coming years

Counting just the MCU, Holland will certainly appear in Spider-Man 4and it is almost certain that he will appear in Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: Secret Wars. These are two films slated for release in 2026, just a few months apart, and one in 2027. So Nolan’s film is also slated for release in July 2026, which means Summer 2026 will be a big month for the Netherlands. Obviously, before these films are released, Holland will need to turn in his acting, shoot the film, which will likely fill his schedule for most of 2025.

So in 2026, even though all of these films have been finished and no longer require reshoots, the marketing tours will begin, and for films like the MCU and Nolan’s works, there will be a huge marketing push. Furthermore, Nolan’s film will likely see Holland making the rounds on the awards circuit in late 2026 and early 2027. Then it will be time to start marketing to Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. This means there will be very little time to add other projects.

Why the Uncharted sequel is taking so long despite $401 million at the box office

Uncharted 2 will likely suffer even more delays

As exciting as this may be for Holland, it spells disaster for another blockbuster and its sequel. Uncharted was released in 2022, and the film managed to gross a remarkable $401 million at the box office. For most films, this is a huge number, but for a debut film in a video game adaptation, it was monumental. And as a result, many fans were excited to see where Nathan Drake would go in a sequel. However, despite the huge box office and support for the film, there have been very few developments for Unknown 2 in recent years.

It does not seem likely that Unknown 2 will be able to fit into this busy schedule.

But now, with Holland’s schedule apparently packed until mid-2027, this puts an even bigger barrier between the actor and reprising his role in the sequel. It’s not impossible, of course, and it may depend on the size of his pieces in the Avengers movies, but it might be too much to add an entirely different franchise into the mix. However, it does not seem likely that Unknown 2 will be able to fit into this busy schedule until Tom Holland’s work in the MCU and with Christopher Nolan is establishedpotentially putting it much closer to 2030 than the next few years.
