Pokémon is home to a vast universe containing hundreds of unique creatures that roam the wild ready to be captured, with the fire-based dinosaur known as Charizard being one of the first and most popular monsters in the entire franchise. In new fan art drawn by a DC Comics alumnus Jim Lee, Charizard gets a realistic comic book-style makeover that gives the character an even more badass appearance than ever!
Drawn during one of Jim Lee's works (@jimlee) recent Twitch streams, this industry vet got his start in the late '80s as a Marvel artist and drew the inaugural issue of X-Men in 1991. Co-founder of Image Comics in the late '90s, Jim went on to become an integral member of DC Comics, and the rest is history. Submitting character sketches of Boba Fett from Star Wars, Dragon ballis Goku, and even Comet's profound animal companion, the Super-Horse, Jim recently shared work-in-progress artwork for the upcoming DC film Silence sequenceexalting in a way only he can.
Charizard Gets a Comic Book Makeover from Artist Jim Lee in Awesome New Sketch

Making his Pokémon anime debut in the first season of “Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon”, Charizard was initially an antagonistic figure for the united team of Ash and Pikachu after it evolved from a particularly distressed Charmeleon, forcing everyone involved to take a deep look at themselves and mature accordingly. Eventually respecting each other to the point where Charizard finally stopped being disobedient to Ash's commands, it wasn't until dozens of episodes later that Charizard decided to join his fellow flame dragons, ending a relationship that had already come a long way since then. . his days as an innocent Charmander.
Sketched in pencil against a dark, cloudy background, Jim Lee takes this more realistic version of the character and brings out his dragon elements while finding a way to enhance the terrifying nature of what a fire-breathing monster would be like in the real world. Detailing Charizard with coarsely textured skin, spiked tail, fanged snarl, scaled neck, horns, and a pair of battle-worn wings, the only thing left to do on this illustration would be to find a colorist to dye Charizard its signature shade of orange. – something that would further enhance this already impressive design.

With interest in the franchise on the rise, Pokémon recently began a new era in the anime space following the journey of two new protagonists, Liko and Roy.with Pokémon Horizons' highly anticipated second season scheduled to stream on Netflix on February 7, 2025. Funny enough, this anime started off with a completely different version of Charizard making its presence known, showing that love for this OG pocket monster is still rife in the fan community, with Jim Leethe incredible sketch of PokémonThe fire dinosaur showing that the character can work just as well in the comic book world.
