The high elven king Celeborn is a notable figure in JRR Tolkien’s Legendarium; but despite his stature, he only appeared briefly in Peter Jackson’s film Lord of the Rings and it hasn’t appeared on Amazon yet The Rings of Power. One of the wisest Elves who ever lived, Lord of the Wood Elf kingdom of Lothlorien and husband of Galadriel, Celeborn is one of the most powerful figures in Tolkien’s universe. He was present at almost every major event that took place in Arda, or on Earth as it is known in Tolkien’s stories.
At the premiere of The Rings of PowerMorgoth’s shadow is briefly seen as the Valar descend upon the Two Trees, one of the few times the First Age of the Legendarium is referenced in the TV show. Celeborn was an adult elf from the earliest years of Earth’s creation, so he has seen almost all of the world’s history. He married Galadriel sometime in those millennia and the two have been together ever since. The strength of their union makes it even stranger that he was barely in the main film or TV adaptations.
Some of Celeborn’s scenes were cut from the Lord of the Rings films
Marton Csokas appears as Celebborn in Jackson’s films
This is not to say that Celebborn does not appear in THE Lord of the Rings adaptations. He makes a brief appearance in Jackson’s film The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the Kingboth times played by Marton Csokas. In the first film, he appears alongside Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) when the fellowship arrives in Lothlórien and asks about Gandalf’s (Ian McKellan) situation. In the extended version, he also offers a dagger to Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) when the fellowship leaves Lothlórien.
He also appears at the end of The Return of the Kingwelcoming Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Bilbo (Ian Holm) to the Gray Havens docks. Celebborn was supposed to appear in The Two Towers to meet Elrond (Hugo Weaving). The scene ended up being cut due to scheduling restrictions (via CBR). Although Celeborn is an important part of the fabric of Tolkien’s world, having much more of him in the cinema would be unnecessary. Galadriel and Elrond provide the necessary “wise” elven parts of the film. Having a third important and elevated figure would be difficult to manage.
Galadriel believes Celebborn is dead in the Rings of Power
Celeborn plays an important role in the second era of Middle Earth
Celebborn didn’t appear at all The Rings of Power. Although Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) stars in the series, her husband has yet to appear, although he is referenced. In Season 1, Episode 7, “The Eye”, Galadriel mentions that she has not seen Celeborn since he fought in the War of the Great Jewels.an era before. She assumes he is dead. The Rings of Power played fast and loose with Tolkien’s official timeline of events, so just because Celeborn is alive in the official story, he could still be dead in the show.
Celebborn is an important figure in the Second Age of Middle-earth when The Rings of Power it happens.
However, it is equally possible that he is alive and Celeborn makes his debut in season three. Celebborn is an important figure in the Second Age of Middle-earth when The Rings of Power it happens. He leads the Elven forces alongside Elrond to face Sauron after the Rings are forged, but he is defeated and must retreat. He is later one of the leaders during the War of the Last Alliance, the battle shown in the prologue of Jackson’s book. The Fellowship of the Ring. If The Rings of Power ends in this battle as some expect, Celebborn will probably be there.
