The Witcher 4 development team will have a better work environment
From crisis to calm
CDPR reflected on its previous work environment to THE Wizard 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and implemented significant changes to production The Witcher 4. A culture of mandatory overtime, long working hours and stressful periods has been reported to develop Cyberpunkwith related disclosures in The Witcher 3 also. Although the latter managed to successfully launch universal acclaim Cyberpunk debut has been praised as one of the most notorious game releases of all time due to its buggy state. Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga spoke with IGN about the changes The Witcher 4stating,
“I think it’s already helping [creating a mindful workplace culture]I think it's like that [forward is] produce it in a healthy way so that people can still have fun in what they do. And that's what's inspiring, that's what makes the quality so high”
CDPR's Healthier Workplace Changes Began During Production and Development of the Expansion Pack Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Freedom. The restructuring of teams to focus on specific content resulted in Phantom Freedomevaluation by fans and critics, renewing interest in intellectual property and selling millions of copies. This approach continues in The Witcher 4as more time was allowed for pre-production with similar “content team” structure and coherence, which Kalemba noted he did “Everyone feels more secure when it comes to general day-to-day development.”
Our opinion: The Witcher 4 was shown at The Game Awards 2024
A new saga begins for The Witcher
The cinematic reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024 was well-received by fans, with some noting that they will patiently allow CDPR all the time it needs to achieve a sequel worthy of The Witcher 3. Reddit user SplitOZero praised the change of protagonist from Geralt of Rivia in the 3 previous outings to his adopted daughter: “Ciri grew up and really became the witch after W3. She's such a badass. I can't wait for the game and please don't mess up, CDPR.” The powerful character seems to have evolved a lot since The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 was not forgotten by fans, as the damage done to CDPR's reputation had lasting effects. Editor Mokibear228 simply stated “Do not pre-order,” referring to the launch of Cyberpunk and dissent among fans upon release. However, a new protagonist and workplace changes feel like a fresh start for the series. Ciri as a full-fledged witch looks fantastic, and the reveal of The Witcher 4 as part of a new trilogy of games looks to be the start of an interesting and long-awaited period for CD Projekt Red.
