In a franchise like Batmanwhere so much of Gotham City's “look” relies on darkness and shadows, it's not easy to stand out. Catwoman always manages to remain attractive, even in costumes specifically designed to let her move around unseen and leave silently with her prize. Selina often wears dark, form-fitting suits paired with some version of her classic cat ears, whether molded into a mask or atop a concealing hood. Most Catwoman designs tend to strike a careful balance between functionality and aesthetics, and the Michelle Pfeiffer suit that Lisa Mancini perfectly recreated fits right into that wheelhouse.

Considering the effort that went into the original design, Lisa Mancini's cosplay is even more impressive.

The original costume, by costume designers Mary Vogt and Bob Ringwood, was made from black latex and painted with a layer of silicone to give it the perfect fluid shine on set. The white stitching, arguably the most iconic aspect of Catwoman's look, was included at Tim Burton's request as he wanted to capture the look of a tabby cat coming apart. The costume had to be fitted so precisely that the designers used a mold of Pfeiffer's body to create it. Considering the effort that went into the original design, Lisa Mancini's cosplay is even more impressive.

Catwoman is among DC's most stylish heroes, making her a go-to for ambitious cosplay artists

Michelle Pfeiffer's cinematic Selina Kyle sets the standard

Selina Kyle often walks the line between villain and hero. Although she frequently assists Batman and his allies in their ventures in Gotham City, and continues to have a complicated personal relationship with Bruce Wayne, she never fully relinquishes her presence in the criminal underworld. An exquisite piece of jewelry or an expensive painting will always be a worthy target, even if it brings her (briefly) into conflict with the Caped Crusader, and she always looks good on the job. Catwoman look for Burton's Batman Returns captured Selina Kyle's attention in detail and Lisa Mancini's magnificent cosplay proved it's a timeless look.
