DenialThe Rotten Tomatoes score is here, and serves as redemption for Cate Blanchett yet Borderlands. Written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Denial Blanchett stars as Catherine Ravenscroft, a journalist and documentarian whose life is turned upside down after she realizes that she is a main character in a novel that threatens to reveal a dark secret. The Apple TV+ show, which also stars Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Cohen, marks Blanchett’s follow-up to Eli Roth’s. Borderlandswhich was a major critical and commercial flop, grossing only $33 million on an estimated $115 million budget.

Although the score is sure to fluctuate as more reviews are added, it currently sits very far above BorderlandsWhich got a dismal 10% from critics and 51% from audiences. No audience score has arrived for Denial Just yet, but one is sure to arrive on October 11 with the premiere of the show.

Why the Apple TV+ series is earning positive reviews
Cuarón is an acclaimed filmmaker, and he directs films like You mother Tombie (2001), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Children of men (2006), Gravity (2013), and Roma (2018). The expectation was high then DenialWhich is only his second time creating a TV show. The 77% score is certainly a positive start for the series, but it’s also more of a lukewarm result compared to the critical response to many of his films.

Will it be the next hit from Apple TV+?
Borderlands was a major miss, and it is currently one of the two most significant blockbuster failures of 2024, along with Joker: Folie à Deux. Although Denials early reviews can be described more as “Tough“rather than”shine,“ And while the show does feature some flaws, it, at the very least, serves as an impressive showcase of Blanchett’s talents.
It remains to be seen how Denial will be with audiences, but the critical response is in accordance with the for so to speak, innocentWhich became a major viewership hit for Apple TV+. Even if Denial It’s not quite the same heights in terms of popularity, it’s undoubtedly a win for Blanchett after all Borderlands.
