The office The reboot is in the works for the show’s new home, Peacock, and the exciting sequel is finally taking shape after years of speculation. Despite ending in 2013, The office found a resurgence in popularity after the series began streaming on Netflix. As one of Netflix’s most-watched titles, the streamer was dealt a blow when the rights reverted to NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. With the sitcom still fresh in viewers’ minds, the notion of a reboot continues to be a topic of discussion.

Based on the British series of the same name, Greg Daniels created The office in 2005, when it premiered on NBC. With a mockumentary format and a wide variety of characters led by the inept businessman Michael Scott (Steve Carell), The office found its footing in season two. It then became a bona fide hit for the network over the course of its nine seasons before ending in 2013. Talk about a revival of The office has steadily gained momentum in the years since, and the reboot finally feels closer than ever.

The Office reboot story details

The reboot will be set in the Midwest

Cast of The Office together and looking at a computer in The Office

Perhaps the most speculated about part The office rebooting has been its story, and it has long been shrouded in mystery with very few details. However, when the show was officially greenlit in May 2024, story details were also released. The office the reboot won’t be a simple repeat of the original; instead, it will see the first show’s documentary team pursuing a new subject. The reboot will be set in the office of a Midwestern newspaper that is struggling to get back on its feet with a team of volunteer reporters.

While this doesn’t rule out the possibility of a crossover with the original show, the disparate setting would make it difficult for Scranton residents to make cameos. However, the reboot will be set in the same universe as The office which opens the door for anything to happen. Since the show is about a newspaper, it would be entirely possible for Dunder Mifflin to do business with the struggling printing operation in The office restart.
