Now the CW has thrown its hat into the ring with Sherlock and daughterseries that aims to fill the void left by the cancellation of the aforementioned Sherlock in 2017. In February 2024, The CW announced that it would produce a new TV series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character, and revealed many interesting details. Sherlock and daughter will be directed by showrunner and producer James Duff, while Brendan Foley created and wrote the adaptation. Although all the details have not been revealed, it is known that Harry Potter alumnus David Thewlis will star as the eponymous detectivewhile Blu Hunt will play Amelia, an American who could be Sherlock's daughter.
The debut season will consist of 8 episodesalthough a release date remains undefined. In the USA, Sherlock and daughter will air on the CW but will stream on Discovery+ in the UK. The CW's programming has been going through a lot of changes recently, and stalwarts like Superman and Lois, Riverdaleand the All American the franchise began to be phased out in favor of unscripted content. However, Sherlock and daughter appears to be reversing this trend, although it may suffer the same fate as The Librarians: The Next Chapterwhich was abandoned by the CW and saved by TNT.

Even though a large part Sherlock and daughter is still shrouded in mystery, several important characters have been cast, including the titular detective. David Thewlis (Harry Potter) will star as Sherlock Holmes, the iconic detective who is on the trail of a case he cannot investigate without risking the lives of his loved ones. About that, Blue Hunt (The New Mutants) co-stars as Amelia, a mysterious American woman who searches for Sherlock, believing he is his father, after his mother's death. Douglas Scott (Bat woman) was chosen to play the villain Moriarty.
In addition to David Thewlis joining the actors who played Sherlock Holmes, several notable characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's library were also cast. Sherlock's partner, Dr. Watson, will be played by Seán Duggan, although it's unclear how much Sherlock's partner will influence the story. The newest case of Sherlock Holmes
The CW provided a pretty concise description of the show's premise when it announced Sherlock and daughter and combines classic Holmes mystery with new character wrinkles. The series will see Thewlis' Sherlock Holmes trapped in a difficult situation when he comes across a case he cannot investigate without bringing potential harm to your friends and family. About that, Amelia (Hunt), seeks out Holmes after learning he may be her long-lost father.
In addition to the main case, Amelia will also likely team up with Holmes to help solve her own mother's murder. Meanwhile, the show will likely play with the mystery of Amelia's parentage, as the young girl believes the famous detective is her father. In addition to all this, the evil Professor Moriarty (Scott) will fit into the story in some way and could be part of the main mystery plot that triggers the entire conflict in Sherlock and daughter.
