While nothing was confirmed about season 2’s plot or characters when it was first revealed, it has now been announced that Jake Gyllenhaal will not return as Rusty Sabich in Year 2. Furthermore, Presumed innocent is moving away from author Scott Turow and will instead, I will be adapting the next book, Dissection of a murder by Jo Murray.

The book, set for release in spring 2026, follows defense attorney Leila Reynolds as she attempts to try her first murder case after her client specifically asked to retain her services. The streamer promised a new case for the sophomore release, and it was assumed that Turow’s follow-up novel Innocentwould serve as inspiration. However, Apple chose to go in an entirely new direction, choosing an entirely different legal thriller author.
