Cassandra made her debut in Grant Morrison's film. New X-Men run, but while running, a little old girl named Ernst also appears. She was introduced to Xorn's Special Class, but when Xorn was revealed to be Magneto in disguise, Ernst joined his reformed Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Morrison's run ended with a story set in the distant future where Nova was, surprisingly, the leader of the X-Men, and it was heavily hinted that she was always Ernst in disguise, even including a scene where she tells one character that they are all they can also call her Ernst.

Thanks to what was essentially a mental lobotomy after merging with Stuff, a synthetic brain, and then teaching Professor X and Jean Gray to unlearn their evil ways, starting with New X-Men #126, Ernst was supposed to be the rehabilitated version of Cassandra Nova.which Grant Morrison confirmed after their work on the series. One has to wonder if a world where Nova leads the X-Men isn't possible for the same reason, especially now that she's with 3K. Then again, this could also mean that Nova's road to redemption is even longer than expected. The main X-Men villain before her, Magneto, of course, had a long road to redemption and committed acts that could be considered irreparable, but he was redeemed nonetheless. Magneto is now a full-fledged hero, and depending on how Cassandra Nova comes out of this situation in 3K, she may end up redeeming herself in the eyes of viewers. X-Men Also.
