Steve Rogers has always fought on the side of “good” and will go to bat, relentlessly, for whatever reasons he believes to be right. Straczynski’s Captain America run has shed new light on this by revealing that he is and always has been a change agent, essentially meaning that his soul is one of many that enter the world at times of great change or upheaval. Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and other historical figures are also named as fellow change agents, but his current team holds both the honor and burden of fighting for Lyra, or life, against her brother, death.

The change agents are not just a group of people driven to help: they have been chosen by life itself.

As varied and huge as the Avengers’ conflicts have been over the years, with many of them holding the fate of the world in their hands, Cap and the Change Agents have been tasked to save existence on an unfathomable scale. As the first recruit, Carlos accompanies Steve to find their next target, a mutant with precognition known as “Sir.” Her precognition works through the calculation of possibilities, and she has an affinity for electronics.

Collectively, the Chang Agents make a mind-blowingly powerful team.

Malik has the uncanny ability to see the truth in people, along with the future, and is set to be the most powerful of Cap’s change agents. He is central to Lyra’s plan, and thus Death’s biggest target. Seer, who struck a deal with death before she met Steve and the others, seems to hold Malik’s fate uniquely in her hands – which Malik is aware of, but doesn’t stop her from making whatever her final decision may be. .
