Along with tradition, exciting combat and epic plots, one of the great attractions of Dragon Age Games have always been your romance options, and luckily, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard maintains this tradition. Amid the persecution of the ancient elven gods and the politics of Thedas, Rook will be able to find time for love in his new group of friends. However, with other RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 offering the choice of polyamorous relationships, many are wondering if Dragon Age: The Veil Guard will also offer it as an option.
On his mission to save Thedas, Rook is accompanied by seven companions, all romance options in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard. Each companion has an interesting personality and a unique view of the worldoffering something different no matter what type of Tower is being played. And as you’d expect from a BioWare game, there’s plenty of time for flirting in between all the jokes and party banter.
You can’t date multiple characters in Veilguard, but you can flirt
There’s no harm in keeping your options open
With seven romance options to choose from, Rook has plenty of options, but those looking for romance with more than one companion will be disappointed. To begin with, all companions can be flirted with by choosing the flirty ‘heart’ dialogue option in conversations. However, after a certain point, Rook will be forced to choose a romance option to commit toalthough there are no negative effects from having flirted with multiple characters up to that point.
Veilguard follows the tradition of the Dragon Age novel
Many options, but only one true love
Dragon Age: The Veil Guard maintains the tradition of the series by offering multiple romance options to the protagonistwith one ultimately chosen over the others. Approval, as always, plays an important role, and by increasing approval, new dialogue and scenes will open up to expand Rook’s relationship with his new friends. This has remained largely unchanged since Dragon Age: Originswith choices made during missions, dialogue options and gift giving, it all goes towards wooing a potential love interest.
Different Origins and Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard has a similar approach to romance as Dragon Age 2with every romance option available to Rook, regardless of race or gender. This helps keep your options open, especially when you get to know everyone early on, and it helps if you’re planning on dating Emmerich or Taash, who joins the team last. Most importantly, flirting with different companions does not lead to awkward scenes or block Rook from any dialogue with anyone else, allowing them to play the field for a while before calming down.
However, not being able to date multiple characters like Rook opens up the options for one of the sweetest and most realistic aspects of romance in the game. After Rook chose his romantic partner, the other companions will seek their own romance with each other and with other charactersasking Rook for advice along the way. So while Dragon Age: The Veil Guard doesn’t offer polyamory for Rook, I hope no one misses the chance to love.
