Buffy The Vampire Slayer opening credits recreated in stunning Claymation

An artist recreated the Buffy the Vampire Slayer opening credits in claymation. In the more than two decades since it closed, Buffy has become a cult classic TV show. The series tells the story of a young woman who discovers that her destiny is to kill vampires and other terrifying creatures. It was created by visionary Joss Wheedon and ran for seven seasons, from 1997 to 2003. Buffy the Vampire Slayer featured an iconic lead cast including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head, David Boreanaz and Seth Green.

Artist José Brett recently created a clay reimagining of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer credits sequence.

Specifically, the stop-motion scene captures the Buffy the Vampire season 3 credits, which feature some of the titular character's most iconic deaths. Even the title of the show is set against a clay moon backdrop to open the sequence. The live-action characters are replaced by stop-motion figures with flowing clay hair and minimal expressions. Light special effects are used for explosions and character disappearances. The clip uses the same music as the real one Buffy the Vampire Slayer intro to season 3.

What This Means for Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A Buffy animated series never got off the ground

While this is just a recreation of the intro sequence, Brett's video is a good reminder of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series that never existed. At one point, a concept was presented for Buffy: the animated serieswhich would have been a spin-off of the live-action Mothership series that began during the events of Season 1. Although development on the series began in 2001, the series was ultimately unable to find a network that was willing to take a risk on the series.

Everything that exists of the art of Buffy: the animated series is a four-minute pilot and the comic strip "After these messages... we'll be right back!", which was inspired by the style of the proposed program. Still, these designs are indicators that this animated series would look very different from what Brett envisions. Stop-motion animated series are time-consuming and expensive to make, so a BuffyA Claymation series based on Claymation would never come to fruition, but Brett's clip shows it could work well for the story.

Our opinion on this Buffy The Vampire Slayer art

There is still great interest in the series

I think Brett's opinion on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3's credits sequence is more proof of the series' lasting impact than anything else. Fan recreations of Buffy through art and cosplay have been plentiful over the years. Conversations of one Buffy Reboot series have rotated frequently over the years, and the continued creation of art like this shows that the fanbase for such a series would still exist and be excited about Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
