Bridget Jones: Crazy about the boy’s story

The film is based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 book

Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones in pajamas in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

The eponymous novel catches up with recently widowed Bridget as she tries to establish herself in the 21st century dating scene as a woman over 50.

Although the Bridget Jones film series skipped Fielding’s 2013 book Bridget Jones: Boy Crazy to do Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016, it didn’t do much to deviate from the book’s timeline. The eponymous novel follows recently widowed Bridget as she tries to establish herself in the 21st century dating scene as a woman over 50. she begins a flirtatious relationship with a much younger man named Roxsterand more of his typical quirky antics ensue.

It’s unclear exactly how much freedom the new film will take with the book’s story.but the basic structure is flexible enough to accommodate changes without losing the charm of Fielding’s writing. Roxster’s character is a new wrinkle in the equation, and the inclusion of Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver is also a wild card that fans will be eager to learn more about. Regardless of how close Bridget Jones: Boy Crazy follows its namesake, it will be a welcome return.
