The Wild Robot enjoyed a rare box office boost after more than a month of showing in theaters. The new DreamWorks film, adapted from Peter Brown’s children’s book of the same name, follows robot Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) stranded on a desert island and becoming a surrogate mother to an orphaned goose named Brightbill (Kit Connor). THE Wild Robot Release began in late September with a middling opening weekend of $35.7 million, but slowly and steadily became a huge success, surpassing $200 million worldwide.
Put Deadline, The Wild Robot experienced an incredibly rare week 6 bump at the box office. Instead of a weekly drop, the film was actually up 11% over its Week 5 total, with Sunday morning projections showing it grossing a three-day total of $7.55 million at the domestic box office, placing in second place on the chart and bringing its cumulative domestic revenue to US$121.4 million. It’s just the 13th film to surpass the US$120 million domestic mark in 2024 and the fourth animated film, behind Panda Kung Fu 4, Despicable Me 4and Inside Out 2.
More to come…
