Daredevil: Born Again Mayor Fisk will bring one of the most exciting changes to the MCU since Captain America: Civil War. In the 2016 film Captain America, the Avengers were divided over new government legislation that required oversight over super-powered heroes and vigilantes. Now, it appears that Wilson Fisk will continue these themes in New York City once he becomes its new mayor.
Mirroring events from the original Marvel Comics, Matthew Murdock’s Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin (Vincent D’onofrio) will clash like never before in the upcoming revival series Daredevil: Born Again. Seeking to gain a new form of power by becoming a politician, it has already been teased and established that “Mayor Fisk” will soon be a troubling reality in the MCU’s New York. To that end, one can expect some pretty big and exciting status quo changes for the MCU thanks to Kingpin’s upcoming role in Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil: Born Again Is Making Wilson Fisk Mayor of New York
Running for office with a clear agenda
How it was teased at the end of the Marvel movie EchoWilson Fisk will soon run to become the next mayor of New York City. Given his public criminal record, it remains to be seen how feasible this is (not to mention the legality behind it). That said, recent real-world events have coincidentally proven that convictions do not necessarily prohibit one’s ability to be elected.
Without considering, New York’s former Kingpin becoming its new mayor seems like an inevitability in the future of the MCU. As a result, this new power will undoubtedly make Matt Murdock’s mission to stop him much more difficult, both as a lawyer and as Daredevil. Likewise, it has also been suggested that Wilson Fisk will be running on a very specific platform, just as he did in the original Marvel Comics.
New York is now hostile territory for superheroes
A Huge Effect on the MCU Superhero Status Quo
Wilson Fisk is expected to run primarily on an anti-vigilante platform, just as he did on the page. Once elected (after fixing the vote) in the comics, Kingpin went so far as to ban vigilantes entirely from New York using the Powers Act (as seen in the Devil Reign crossover event). Using a private task force to arrest heroes and further police the city under his directives, it appears that similar tactics will likely be implemented by D’onofrio Mayor Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again.
“It certainly seems like all of the New York-based MCU heroes will likely be affected by Mayor Fisk once he takes office…”
As seen in footage and teasers for Daredevil: Born Again So far, vigilantes like The Punisher and White Tiger seem to be in danger. Likewise, other figures like serial killer artist Muse will likely only serve to make Fisk’s anti-vigilante even more popular (just like in the comics). It’s also worth noting that Ms. Marvel’s father was shown being protected by Murdock (and it could be because of his vigilante daughter). To this end, It certainly seems like all of the New York-based MCU heroes will likely be affected by Mayor Fisk once he takes office (which would probably include Spider-Man as well).
Mayor Fisk perfectly follows the civil war themes
A war on the MCU’s vigilantes after Civil War’s Sokovia Accords
Like the Sokovia Accords, it appears that Speaker Fisk will likely explore similar sentiments and arguments to those presented in 2016. Civil War. Likewise, 2022 She-Hulk: Lawyer (and Matt Murdock’s cameo) confirmed that some form of the Accords still exists in the current MCU. To this end, It wouldn’t be a big surprise if Fisk’s anti-vigilante campaign and subsequent laws were formed based on the original legislation created by the United Nations.
Anyway, New York becoming hostile to MCU heroes in Daredevil: Born Again it would be a huge change from the status quo, continuing the themes of one of the MCU’s best films. To that end, it certainly seems like Mayor Fisk will serve as a critical force for change in the MCU going forward, a force that could very well lead to future MCU events on both the small and big screens. After all, one of the MCU’s most prominent cities suddenly becoming undesirable to the heroes is something that would be very difficult to ignore.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to begin broadcasting on March 4, 2025.
