Born Again cast felt about the MCU show before Marvel’s massive creative overhaul

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will add more information as it becomes available.

Daredevil: Born Again Star Vincent D’Onofrio recently opened up about the series’ massive creative overhaul. The series planned to bring back D’Onofrio and his costar from Netflix’s DaredevilCharlie Cox, from the start, but the original vision was scrapped by Marvel, with the studio leading the writing and directing teams. At New York City Comic Con, D’Onofrio had this to say about the change:

When we finally figured out how to do this show, it was so exciting, and to actually play it like Charlie and I always wanted to go on. Many of us involved in the first iteration were really eager for a better way, and it worked out.

The second iteration of Daredevil: Born Again will reunite D’Onofrio and Cox with Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Although few plot details have been revealed, the Official synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again Gives some insight into what to expect: “Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again” catches up with Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, and his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, who pursue his own political endeavors in New York..”

Echo Set up the potential for Fisk to run for mayor of New York City, which would adapt a Marvel Comics storyline in which Kingpin is successfully elected. His platform was centered on anti-vigilante policies. In fact, the “Devil’s Rule” storyline saw Kingpin successfully outlawing vigilantes and establishing a task force to stop anyone found engaging in such activities.

Given D’Onofrio’s comments in addition to the setup in EchoIt is likely that the MCU will do their own take on “Devil’s Rule.” If so, it makes sense that both actors would be excited for the story to take this direction. Both Cox and D’Onofrio expressed enthusiasm for their characters and for starring opposite each other. The intrigue of Kingpin, being the mayor of New York, can further spread the enmity between him and Daredevil. Additionally, the actor’s comments indicate that the tone of Daredevil: Born Again Will draw heavily from the Netflix series.

Kingpin threatened Matt Murdock in Daredevil on Netflix

D’Onofrio seems to think Daredevil: Born Again is headed in the right direction. Aside from his NYCC comments, the actor also discussed whether the series will be as brutal as its predecessor. The Kingpin actor said the Disney+ series is indeed going “Much further“, in terms of violence. He further explained: “There’s one thing in particular that my character does that I can’t believe was in the cut.”

Regardless of whether it takes inspiration from “Devil’s Reign,” the series sounds like a return to form if D’Onofrio is to be believed. Daredevil: Born Again Premieres on Disney+ on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

After Charlie Cox’s cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and supporting role in She-Hulk: Lawyer at Law, Daredevil: Born Again gives Matt Murdoch his first show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Consisting of 18 episodes, Daredevil: Born Again serves as the spiritual successor to Netflix’s three-season Daredevil series and adapts its characters to the MCU’s main continuity while establishing a new beginning for the superhero advocate.
