James Bond is one of the most popular and historic franchises in cinema history. From the first Connection film, Dr. Nowas released in 1962, it is understandable that the James Bond The franchise has gone through many changes over the years. However, on the 26th Connection the film could mark one of the biggest changes ever for the franchise.
Throughout its more than 60 years of history, seven actors played British spy James Bond. These James Bond actors created several different eras of the franchise. In the past, it was usually when a new actor took over as 007 that the most notable changes were made to the series. Therefore, since Daniel Craig will not return as James Bond in the next film, Bond 26 is destined to be a drastically different film from the previous ones.
Daniel Craig’s 007 death puts James Bond 26 in uncharted territory
James Bond 26 will introduce a new 007
Previously, Daniel Craig played James Bond from 2006-2021. Although his casting was controversial at first Craig went on to become one of the most well-received Bond actors in history. However, at the end of There’s no time to dieCraig’s version of James Bond has died. Although this was speculated before the release of There’s no time to dieIt was still a surprising move for the long-running series, as no previous James Bond had ever died.

Before Craig took on the role in Royal Casinothe switching of Bond actors was never really addressed throughout the series. As Bond was previously a character who would never die, a new actor would step into his place and the audience would simply be asked to accept him. However, James Bond dying at the end of There’s no time to die confirms that Bond 26 will feature yet another new version of the character. Craig’s version of the character was quite different from those that came before him, so it’s likely that the audience’s version of James Bond found in the 26th film will also be a different take on the iconic spy.
Bond 26 will be the first film released since Amazon acquired MGM
James Bond 26 will mark the beginning of a new era for the franchise
Going back to the days of Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of OzMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer was one of Hollywood’s most historic studios. In addition to franchises such as Rocky and Legally BlondeMGM produced all James Bond films (except 1967 Royal Casino). Therefore, the James Bond the franchise was MGM’s crown jewel. However, MGM was purchased by Amazon in 2022, meaning the next Connection film will be the first produced under Amazon supervision.
Amazon owns 50% of James Bond franchise, with the other half still belonging to Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who inherited the rights from their father.
However, Amazon doesn’t have full control over the next James Bond film. Amazon owns 50% of James Bond franchise, with the other half still belonging to Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who inherited the rights from their father. Broccoli and Wilson have the final say on all decisions made regarding the James Bond series and are known for being very protective of the spy franchise. Therefore, although some changes will likely be made, they will likely ensure that Bond 26 remains somewhat faithful to the previous films.
The gap between No Time To Die and Bond 26 could be the biggest yet
It could still be years before the next James Bond film
After the release of Dr. No in 1962, new James Bond Films were released almost every year. However, as the years passed and the franchise expanded, there were longer gaps between new films. Although, even through several changes of actors, the James Bond the franchise has remained very consistent over the years. So far, the longest interval between James Bond films were the six years between 1989 License to kill and 1995 GoldenEye. License to kill was the last time Timothy Dalton played James Bond, and GoldenEye it was the first time that Pierce Brosnan played the spy.
Since There’s no time to die was released in 2021, James Bond 26 it will have to be launched in 2027 to fill this gap. As a new James Bond actor has not yet been cast nor has it been suggested that the film will be filmed anytime soon, it seems unlikely that Bond 26 could have a 2027 release date. Unless significant progress is made on the film very soon, it will likely be released in 2028 or 2029, meaning fans could be in the middle of the longest period without James Bond. Hopefully, when James Bond 26 is released, it will live up to fans’ high expectations.
