With November 7th, or N7, quickly approaching, fans may not want to get their hopes up for big news regarding the Mass Effect series, which currently has a highly anticipated sequel, the prospective Mass Effect 5in development. November 7th, an annual celebration of Mass Effect series, chosen as a reference to Shepherd’s in-game rating, is typically a time when fans can expect some sort of Mass Effect news, with previous years including teasers for upcoming games.
Unfortunately, according to a post by @bioware on X, fans may want to temper their expectations for 2024’s N7, as the developer says that “This year will be calmer“ due to the recent launch of Dragon Age: The Veil Guard on October 31st. Notably, though, BioWare is still promising something for the N7, telling fans to “Come back then and have some fun,” but it is currently unknown what this will entail, or even whether it will be related to Mass Effect 5 anyway.
N7 Day might be a little quieter this year than fans are used to
BioWare moderates expectations ahead of N7 2024
While BioWare attempted to temper expectations for the N7, fan response was mixed, trending negativewith many wondering how 2024’s N7 could be “quieter” than those of previous years, which only saw short cinematic teasers for the next Mass Effect. Additionally, while some fans remain positive, others, expressing antipathy towards Guard of the Veilhave concerns about the quality of the next Mass Effectshowing a lack of confidence in BioWare’s development team to create a game as compelling as the original trilogy.
For reference, the first announcement of the next Mass Effect came in 2020with an initial announcement in November quickly followed by a short, cryptic teaser shown at the 2020 Game Awards. Unfortunately, updates in the next Mass Effect were few and far between in the four years following the game’s announcement, as BioWare’s development efforts appear to have focused primarily on Dragon Age: The Veil Guard.
Our Take: Sometimes Bigger Isn’t Always Better
The next Mass Effect may not have much to show yet
Of course, with BioWare reportedly shifting focus to Mass Effect only recently, after the release of Guard of the Veil, It’s likely the studio just doesn’t have much to showand that the next Mass Effect the game is still years away from being released. In that context, it makes more sense to keep N7 relatively light until there’s more to show, rather than overpromising things that might not pan out once the game is in development – especially since, in the worst case scenario, the game might not be released at all. . until 2029.
In the run-up to N7 2024, it’s unclear whether BioWare will release a short cinematic teaser like in previous years – given that the upcoming Mass Effect It’s apparently still in the early stages of development, it could still be a while before there are substantial updates. In light of the long wait since the game’s initial announcement in 2020, many fans are growing restless, but hopefully, whatever BioWare has in store for Mass EffectThe company’s N7 2024 can answer some questions.
