Bianca’s History and Powers on Wednesday Explained

Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) is one of the WednesdayThe most important characters in the series, with their history and powers being important elements of the Netflix series. When introduced in Season 1, Bianca already had a reputation as one of the most popular students at Nevermore Academy and became rivals with Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega). However, Bianca and Wednesday gradually put aside their differences and began to trust and respect each other, and even worked together during Wednesday end of season 1.

Part of the tension between Bianca and Wednesday in Season 1 was due to Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White). He and Bianca previously dated, while Xavier became interested in Wednesday, although Wednesday didn’t feel the same way about him. Both Sunday and Ortega reprise their roles as Bianca and Wednesday in season 2which will likely explore their newfound friendship further. Bianca will continue to be an important part Wednesday the story of season 2, based on what was revealed about his history and powers in season 1.

Bianca’s Mermaid Wednesday Powers Explained

She has powers of manipulation and psychic transformation

Like her mother and her ancestors before her, Bianca is a siren, able to use her siren song to convince others to think, feel or act in a certain way.. Those on the receiving end of their persuasive siren song are often unaware that they are being manipulated, which helps make the Sirens the most powerful outcast species at Nevermore Academy. When Bianca uses her manipulation abilities, this is shown through the emission of magenta-colored sound waves. Bianca wears a necklace that helps her control the siren song.

Psychic manipulation is the main mermaid power that Bianca uses in the first season. Bianca and the other sirens are also able to breathe for an unlimited amount of time underwater. in their mermaid forms and are able to breathe freely when on land. Bianca’s mermaid companion, Kent, used her mermaid form to wreak havoc on the other teams’ boats during Nevermore Academy’s Poe Cup through a plan created by Bianca. Season 1 did not show Bianca fully transforming into a mermaid, although scales could be seen on her while playing with the water fountain on the Nevermore Academy campus.

She wanted a different life for herself

Before being Bianca Barclay on Nevermore Academy she was a young mermaid named Brandy Jane, whose mother was part of a cult known as the Morning Song. Although it is advertised as a self-help community and app, Morning Song is actually a scam. Bianca’s mother, Gabrielle (Gracy Goldman), uses her siren song to manipulate others into giving money to Morning Song and its leader, Gideon, whom Gabrielle later marries. The expectation was that Bianca would use her mermaid powers for Morning Song as well.

Bianca rejected that path and wanted her own life that didn’t involve Morning Song and using her powers in such a nefarious way. She ran away from her mother and Morning Song, taking the name Bianca Barclay and starting a new life at Nevermore Academy. Despite charting a new course for herself, Bianca still used her siren song for manipulative means at times, including to enroll in Nevermore Academya secret that is not known by most Wednesdaycharacters.

Explanation of Bianca’s time at Nevermore before Wednesday’s arrival

She was the queen bee

Before Wednesday’s arrival, Bianca was considered the undisputed queen among the student population at Nevermore Academy. Bianca worked hard to cultivate this image and solidify her position in the student social hierarchy, part of which was dating Xavier. She proved to be a natural leader that others looked up to and admired, including among her fellow mermaids and in the Nightshade Society. Bianca was also unmatched in her fencing skills and was not truly challenged by any opponent until she faced Wednesday.

The separation had already occurred before Wednesday began her studies at Nevermore Academy, but its effects carried over into the series and contributed to the jealousy that Bianca felt towards Wednesday in season 1.

The cracks in Bianca’s facade began to form when Xavier broke up with hersince he couldn’t trust if he really liked her or if she was using her siren song to make him feel that way. The separation had already occurred before Wednesday began her education at Nevermore Academy, but its effects carried over into the series and contributed to the jealousy Bianca felt towards Wednesday in the first season. Bianca’s attitude and social standing changed after Wednesday’s arrival and will continue to change further in Wednesday 2nd season.
