Best Armor Pieces for Monks

Best Armor Pieces for Monks

In Baldur’s Gate 3the Monk has the most class-specific equipment. Throughout the game’s three acts, players will constantly find items that Monks can make exceptional use of. However, this means it can be tricky to determine which equipment is best for a Monk.

Monks have a wonderful equipment progression, with some of their best items coming from Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3, meaning there will be a consistent feeling of them becoming stronger. This also means that Monks generally don’t need to worry about contested itemsas they have a lot of equipment exclusive to their class. By the time players reach Act 3, Monks can deal the most damage of any class in the game.

Crusher Ring

THE Crusher Ring

It is one of the most reliable gems in the game, granting a passive 10-foot boost to the user’s movement speed. This ring can be acquired during Act 1 in BG3Goblin Camp the Goblin called Shreddershown above in Amazon Amazonvideo. Players can stealth his toe ring or kill him to loot it from his corpse.

Taking the Thief subclass from Rogue can drastically increase a Monk’s damage and mobility, providing an additional bonus action.

Monks are already one of the most mobile classes in the game, especially if players decide to add three Rogue for the Thief subclass levels. This means that Monks no longer need to spend Ki points on Dash and can save them for Flurry of Blows damage. Always having three extra meters of movement per turn will allow the Monk to traverse the battlefield with greater ease, which allows the class to deal all its damage.

Mutable Corpus Ring

Two free concentration spells

Baldur's Gate 3 Mobile Corpus Ring

THE Mutable Corpus Ring

can be acquired in Act 2 from Fist Marcus after defeating him in the combat encounter at Last Light Inn. He comes with two concentration spells that Monks can use: Blur and Invisibility. Blur imposes Disadvantage on enemy attack rollswhich can help a Monk take less damage from all sources.

Other ringtone options

Protection Ring

+1 to AC and saving throws

Free Action Ring

Ignores the effects of Difficult Terrain and cannot be Paralyzed or Restrained.

The wall of sparks

The user cannot be electrocuted and has resistance to lightning damage.

Callaruren Soft Hands Fetish

Invisibility Spell

Most Monk players choose the Path of the Open Hand subclass due to its strength and ease of use, which means they won’t cast any Monk spells. This frees up concentration for equipment spells, which is the main focus of this ring. Additionally, monks typically have high stealth and sleight of hand, meaning invisibility can be useful for utilitarian purposes such as stealing.

Khalid’s Gift

Increase the Monk’s wisdom score

The Gift of Khalid amulet can be found in Act 3 in the House of Elerrathin by using Jaheira’s Harp-Shaped Pin to gain access to his basement, as shown in rAAZ1312video above. Prevents Jaheira from being cursed and grants the wearer a level 3 Help roll. However, the main benefit of this amulet is that provides +1 to Wisdomwhich will increase the effectiveness of a Monk’s attacks.

This amulet is excellent for players who have an odd number in their Wisdom Score, such as 17 or 19. Stats only increase with even numberstherefore, using this Amulet to reach 20 Wisdom and get a +5 boost will greatly increase the Monks’ attacks, especially when used in conjunction with the Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo. However, if the Monk’s Wisdom is already 18 or 20 years old, then there is no point in using this amulet.

7

The Deathstalker’s Cloak

Free invisibility on finishing blows

The Deathstalker Mantle Baldur's Gate 3

The Deathstalker Mantle is a cloak that can be acquired in Act 1, but only if the player chooses Dark Urge as its origin. This cape is provided by the Butler for the Dark Urge during a camping cinematic. This grants the user invisibility for two turns after executing a creature.

This skin is great for any character who can perform multiple attacks in one turn, meaning it works very effectively on Monks, who have by far the most attacks per turn. Being invisible for two turns can allow the Monk to position himself to take absurd damage, as he already has incredible mobility. Invisibility grants the user advantage on their next attack rollwhich means that a critical hit is quite likely to occur.

6

Crush Gloves

Bonuses to unarmed attack rolls

Baldur's Gate 3 Crush Gloves

THE Crush Gloves

can be purchased or stolen in Act 2 from vendor Roah Moonglow in Moonrise Towers. These gloves provide the user with a +1 bonus on unarmed attack rolls as well as 2 additional bludgeoning damage on each unarmed strike. These gloves will remain an undisputed choice for Monks until the end of Act 3, when they get the Soul Capturing Gloves in the House of Hope.

Other glove options

Defense Bracers

+2 to AC while not wearing armor

Gray and Sizzle Gloves

Unarmed attacks deal 1-4 additional Fire damage. Scorching Ray Spell Level 3

Seraphic Boxer Gloves

Unarmed attacks deal an additional 1-4 radiant damage. Lightning Spell Guide Level 4

Snow Dust Monastery Gloves

Unarmed attacks deal 1-4 additional Cold damage. Scorching Ray Spell Level 3

Server of the Gloves of the Black Hand

Unarmed attacks deal 1-4 additional Strength damage. Level 3 Fear Spell

Thunder Palm Attackers

Unarmed attacks deal 1-4 additional Thunder damage. Thunder Wave Spell Level 3

While Monks have no shortage of glove options in Baldur’s Gate 3, I prefer the Gloves of Crushing due to the bonus to attack rolls rather than options like the Gray and Sizzle Gloves

or the Seraphic Boxer Gloves

, which just adds additional elemental damage. However, players should feel free to use any elemental glove option when facing enemies with elemental vulnerabilities.

5

Helm of Hell’s Dusk

Immunity to critical attacks

Helldusk Baldur's Gate 3 Helmet

THE Helm of Hell’s Dusk

can be found inside Raphael’s safe in the House of Hope after passing a DC 10 Wisdom Check and a DC 20 Arcana Check. This helmet offers two incredible passives, such as Infernal Vision, which grants enhanced Darkvision and immunity to Blindness, and Magical Durability, which grants a +2 bonus on Saving Throws against spells. It also prevents the user from being critically hit.

While some may be tempted to use the Mask of Soul Perception to increase initiative, the immunity to critical hits is too strong to pass up. Not to mention that at this point in the game, Monks’ main weakness is against ranged spellcasters. Since the Helldusk Helmet offers a bonus on saving throws against spells, it’s the clear winner.

4

Boots of the Uninhibited Kushigo

Increase your wisdom modifier

Boots of the Uninhibited Kushigo Baldur's Gate 3

The Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo can be looted from Prelate Lir’i’c in the Astral Plane shortly before the start of Act 3. These boots grant the wearer increased unarmed damage equal to their Wisdom modifier, which can greatly increase when the Monk’s Wisdom Modifier is +5 or +6. There are other options that Monks can use as well, such as Disintegrating Night Walkers, but I prefer to use these boots for different classes.

To use these boots effectively, the player must ensure that the Monk’s Wisdom skill value is an even number. Stats only increase in strength upon reaching equal thresholds, as 18 Wisdom will provide +4 and 20 Wisdom will provide +5. As such, a Monk with a Wisdom score of at least 20 will see much greater use of these boots than a Monk with just 16 Wisdom.

3

Soul Rejuvenation Vest

Increase armor class

Baldur's Gate 3 Soul Rejuvenation Vest

THE Soul Rejuvenation Vest

can be purchased or stolen from the Sorcerous Miscellaneous Vendor in Act 3. It grants the user Challenger’s Rejuvenation, which heals the user for 1d4 HP whenever they succeed at a Saving Throw against a spell. Also adds a new reaction to the Monk’s toolkit called Greater Kushigo Counterwhich can be used to perform an unarmed attack against enemies that miss the Monk. To top it off, this piece of clothing grants a +2 bonus to Armor Class.

This is by far the best chest armor for Monks, as there are no other competitors when it comes to clothing. Monks also have a bonus to AC through their Wisdomwhich means it is not ideal for Monks to wear Light, Medium or Heavy armor. Greater Kushigo Counter is also an incredible reaction, especially when combined with the use of Blur.

2

Sentient Amulet

Reimbursement of spent Ki points

THE Sentient Amulet

It is one of the few pieces of equipment in the game that can be upgraded. It is first found in Act 1 in Grymforge, guarded by a Magma Elemental inside an Adamantine Chest. To upgrade the amulet, the player must bring it to Wyrm’s Crossing and refuse to take on the madness of the soul of the monk imprisoned according to Scary Fairyvideo.

Sentient Amulet

Before update

After update

Ki Restoration: 2 Ki Points Level 2 Break Spell Speak to Sentient Amulet Action High Spirits Condition (Wisdom Saving Throw)

Ki Restoration: Ki Points equal to Level 3 Martial Arts Breaking Spell

The Sentient Amulet allows its user to return Ki points equal to their martial arts die, which gets progressively larger as the Monk levels up. It also comes with a free cast of the Shatter spell. However, when using the non-upgraded version, players should note that the amulet will occasionally force its wearer to make a wisdom saving throw or fall to the ground laughing.

1

Soul Capture Gloves

Free Healing and Advantage

Baldur's Gate 3 Soul Capture Gloves

The Soul Capturing Gloves are the best Monk item in the game, surpassing most if not all other Monk weapon options, and it’s not even a weapon. These gloves are a reward from Hope after defeating Raphael and freeing her from imprisonment in the House of Hope. These gloves have three effects, all of which are incredibly strong.

Unless you really hate the Elixir of Hill Giant Strength strategy with the Tavern Brawler Feat, there’s no reason why Monks shouldn’t use these gloves.

Soul Capture Gloves grant the wearer’s unarmed strikes an additional 1d10 Strength damage. Once per turn, these gloves can be used to heal the wearer for 10 HP or give the wearer advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the start of the next turn. Also provides +2 to Constitution to increase the Monk’s health pool. These items allow Monks to achieve the most single-target DPS of any class in Baldur’s Gate 3.
