Berserk finally returns with another looming threat
Apostle Rakshas returns at the worst time for courage
Since resuming publication in 2022, Furious had little downtime due to action and desperation. Before Studio Gaga was given the herculean task of continuing the series without its author, Furious was in the middle of a rare peaceful arc, with the main crew taking refuge in Elfhelm, healing from their wounds and remembering their long journey. Shortly thereafter, Griffith invaded the island, destroying it and devastatingly capturing Casca.
With Guts out of commission, the main cast now resides in Kushan territory, being partially held captive by its inhabitants. And while the Kushan discuss plans to go to war with Griffith and Falconia, the apostle Rakshas appears strikingly. The exiled Bakiraka turned demon assassin poses a real threat to anyone nearby and will be quite a challenge for Guts and company. And given recent events, it is possible that the Black Swordsman is in no condition to fight.
Guts is a danger to himself in his current state
After the recent devastation, courage is in no condition to fight
After Casca’s capture, Guts collapses in despair and remains locked up while the cast is in the presence of the Kushans. Despite everything he endured throughout Furious, Guts has never been in a state like he is currently in. Always bouncing back, using his seemingly endless sources of anger and hatred as fuel, the series’ protagonist has been nearly invincible throughout the story. However, now that an Apostle has made his presence known, there is a possibility that Guts will be lost entirely to the Dark Beast.
Upon arriving in Elfhelm, the expenditure of the Berserker Armor’s power was already evident in Guts; his body was covered in scars and his vision was diminished in his remaining eye. In his current state, if he used the armor to its full capacity once more, There’s no telling what damage might be done. Furious has reached a turning point, as war with Griffith is seemingly inevitable and the price of victory may be too high to pay.
