sees the apparent sudden death of Lamarcus Alton (Justin Cornwell) on his honeymoon with Hilary Banks (Coco Jones). Although his death creates a moment of suspense and some viewers still question whether he is really dead, his middle name is enough of a clue to his fate. Peacock Bel Air offers a modern reimagining of the beloved 1990s comedy that launched young Will Smith’s career. While the show maintains its predecessor’s exploration of racial and socioeconomic issues, it places its characters in a very different American climate.
However, Bel Air features many callbacks for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; among the many Easter eggs of Fresh Prince present, one of them unfortunately foreshadows the tragic death of the season 3 finale. In the original Fresh Prince, Hilary’s boyfriend Trevor also dies, but in a bungee jumping accident. Given that Bel-Air is a modern interpretation that follows several storylines from the original show, it would only make sense for this to be included in some way.

In Fresh PrinceTrevor is a news anchor and proposes to Hilary live on air while bungee jumping. He then tragically dies in a bungee jumping accident, leaving young Hilary to deal with her grief. Both Lamarcus and Trevor have successful careers and relationships that were cut short by apparent accidents. Although tragic, Lamarcus’ death is a fitting tribute to Bel-Airsource material.
