Honor Mode is a brutally challenging way to play Baldur’s Gate 3And with Patch 7, even Honor Mode runs that are good can end up with serious issues. As a concept that first appeared in the Divinity: Original Sin Games by Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Larian Studios, Honor Mode ratchets up the difficulty while adding a brutal game over mechanic. Minor mistakes can end the campaign outright in Honor mode, so making it to the credits is quite an accomplishment.
The latest changes to Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming courtesy of the long-awaited Patch 7, which introduces an official modding toolkit and mod manager, new evil endings, dynamic split-screen support, and more. It is also the latest in a series of patches to tweak Honor Mode, which was introduced in Patch 5. Although some bugs that caused initial Honor Mode challenges have been squashed over time, the challenge has largely grown more intense. With each update, but the way that Larian adds new hurdles to overcome also makes the gameplay more interesting.
Legendary actions make Honor Mode bosses tougher
More bosses now have special abilities in patch 7
The biggest changes from Patch 7 to Honor Mode (available on the Baldur’s Gate 3 website) focus on boss fights, mostly tossing new legendary actions into the mix. Legendary actions are a concept taken from tabletop Dungeons & Dragons game, giving bosses the ability to interrupt the turn order with powerful special moves. This is a great way to limit the party’s dominance of the turn order when fighting a solo boss or one with only a few minions as backup, and it amplifies the threat of leaving characters in vulnerable positions with the intention of healing them. Later in the round.

The bosses that get new Legendary Actions in Patch 7 are the Bullette in Act One, Malus Thorm and Ch’r’ai Tska’an in Act Two, and Ch’r’ai Har’rak and Ptaris in Act Three. All may already be challenging fights, so it’s important to make every move count against them after the patch.

Other Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Honor Mode Boss Tweaks
Legendary actions are just the tip of the iceberg
Baldur’s Gate 3 Also added some new boss features to Honor Mode that don’t qualify as legendary actions. Push Act One Boss Dror Ragzlin in the Spider Pit can now amplify the threat thanks to his new spell, Arachnid compulsionWho can convince the spiders to take his side. The bullet gains a condition called Diamond Scales, adding a temporary hit point pool and negating attacks that deal minor damage. Spectators now have a new aura called Panic Sentinel and a spell called Ocular nightmare.
Legendary actions have been tweaked for some bosses in Honor mode, most often in a way that makes them more powerful. Cazador can now use his in his garbage form, which sounds like a nightmare. Gortash’s now works when blind. Thisobald Thorm’s legendary fight is now bigger, more powerful and can’t run the risk of getting hit. The trigger for Mystic Carrion’s legendary action has been changed, and now inflicts conditions like curses. The patch notes also mention that some legendary actions and reactions “Can now trigger from further away“, but it cannot explain what has changed.

The other two big buffs in Honor Mode are applied to Thisobald Thorm and the Shadowed Spirit of the Land, even though neither of them get new features. Thisobald’s blighted allies get an increased buff, and overindulging in his brew will no longer make him vulnerable to all damage types in Honor Mode. The way the fight with the shadowy spirit of the land works has been cleaned up a bit in general, with his shadow friends disappearing after his dome is destroyed but remaining on the field otherwise.
Combat changes to all game modes in BG3 Patch 7
Even normal campaigns will be affected
It’s not all doom and gloom for Honor Mode adventurers, and some game mode changes work in the party’s favor. The biggest nerf to a boss fight is that Cazador no longer takes vampiric healing after ascending. The Restore soul The spell has been changed to make it easier to take a soul back from Raphael than before. A number of crash fixes in combat should also reduce the potential for frustration in tense moments.

It’s common to rely on loopholes that use awkward game mechanics or mistakes in boss behavior to get through Honor Mode, and it should come as no surprise that more of these exploits are being patched up. One great example is that Extra bonus actions can no longer be acquired in the Cazador action. For each encounter, swapping weapons between characters in combat now takes an action for each character.
A few other boss changes apply across all game modes, but they’ll definitely be hardest to deal with in Honor Mode’s general gauntlet. The intention of the priests to fight with their own conditions was fixed. Yurgir now moves around more when invisible, making his location harder to nail down.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 takes up less than 12 GB of additional space, but installing it temporarily requires 160 GB of free space, so it may be necessary to uninstall and reinstall the game if it is on a crowded hard drive.
For those who want to experience the thrills of Legendary Actions and more without the threat of a true game over, Patch 7 makes it possible to use Honor Mode mechanics in custom mode. It’s also possible to convert failed Honor Mode campaigns to playthroughs without permadeath after getting a game, but the run will no longer count as Honor Mode after that point. Surviving the trials of Honor Mode is not something that will appeal to everyone Baldur’s Gate 3 player, but it looks like a more interesting gauntlet than ever before.
