Apple TV + critically acclaimed Bad monkey It was completed, with main characters from Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn) to Nick Stripling (Rob Delaney) with their stories. Her soul later visited people in her life, relating to the belief system she’d begun to abandon.

Talk to IndiewireLawrence revealed how the heart changes to the Dragon Queen, or Gracie (Jodie Turner-Smith) in Bad monkey Made her circle more important than in the novel. The creator explained how, In the book, her character is an older woman with clear, antagonistic intentionsWhile the show sought to make her more complex by making her younger and adding her grandmother, Ya-Ya (L. Scott Caldwell). This made it difficult to remove her in the finale, although the decision made sense and allowed for her redemption after death. Check out what Lawrence had to say below:

The Dragon Queen was a much different character in this book. She was an old woman and she was kind of pretty angry; had no redeeming qualities. And so early on, we wanted to make the character more nuanced. We made her younger, we gave her the consciousness of a grandmother, in yo-yo. I love the character, and I love what Jodie Turner-Smith did with the stuff.

[Her] Arc became a big, important story for us, and you come to terms with her power and the power of nature, all that stuff is such an important theme in [Carl] Hyaasen’s work. We love Jody so much that when it finally came time to actually kill her, it was a difficult decision, because she’s such a great character; [do we want to] Do you continue in the show, if the show continues? So that was difficult. But we felt like we had to honor it: [The character] Made this mistake. She abandoned her beliefs. And it felt narrative, it was appropriate that she dies and then that she has this redemptive moment after her death where she is able to make peace with the people she hurt.

What the ending of the Dragon Queen means for Bad Monkey

Her tragic story added new layers to the TV series

Out of all the letters in Bad monkey, Gracie had the most changes from the book, which saw her as a secondary character compared to the likes of Yancey and Neville (Ronald Pitt). By adding more depth to her character, the TV show created a new subplot dealing with themes of faith and trying to find yourself. This theme coincides with many other stories in the show, from Yancey trying to rekindle his purpose as a detective to Bonnie (Michelle Monaghan) learning to accept who she is despite briefly wanting to take responsibility for her actions.

A sad but necessary end to her character

Despite how important Gracie’s character circle was over Bad monkeyHer rejection of her beliefs only to discover they are real upon death makes for a tragic yet compelling storyline. By dying, she is able to see the truth and learn that Ya-Ya is right, giving her story meaning that, although sad, also felt like the only satisfying way to end her character arc. Although her life would have been a more wholesome finale, it made sense given last episode’s villainous deaths that someone good had to go too.
