Notice! SPOILERS for Fire Country, season 3, episode 6 ahead.
Audrey’s training with Sharon in Land of Fire
Season 3 Episode 6 highlighted an issue that the firefighting drama already hinted at could impact Bode’s relationship with his parents. The episode saw both cadets progressing through training, although Camden Casey’s approach put Bode in a difficult situation as he had to choose between following his captain or doing what he believed was the right thing, as the Station 42 crew thought. Audrey’s time with Sharon was equally stressful, with Sharon leaving Audrey in charge of a call that led to them disagreeing over Sharon’s training style.
Camden’s decision to remove the cadets from the scene was his prerogative, but it aggravated the main problem between him and Bode, as Camden viewed Bode’s closeness to his family and friends as draining Bode’s focus on firefighting. Bode’s choice to disregard Camden’s order and rushing to save Francine and the eaglets let him follow his moral compass, but it also meant Vince had to defend him with Camden, showing the growth of Bode and Vince’s relationship since Land of Fire season 1. Instead, Sharon apologizing to Audrey inadvertently highlighted a major problem in her and Bode’s relationship.
Audrey’s Talk In Fire Country Season 3 Episode 6 Highlights How Little Sharon Knows About Prison
Sharon’s reaction to Audrey’s sharing proved how unaccustomed she was to the stories
Sharon and Audrey’s relationship came a long way after they jointly supported Station 42 from a distance, especially after Sharon apologized for reacting badly when Audrey pointed out Sharon’s joint problems and hot flashes indicated that she might be going through menopause. However, their moment also brought to light how Sharon was completely unaware of the type of relationship that could form in prison because she confused whoever took care of Audrey there with her biological mother. Audrey “Okay, you don’t say prison”I couldn’t have been clearer in pointing this out.
Sharon, not knowing anything about it, was very vocal about how little she and Bode discussed his time in prison.
While Sharon’s misinterpretation of Audrey’s story may be understandable, as Sharon didn’t spend much time around prisons, her son did. Bode spent some time in prison before reconciling with his family and shortly after, between Land of Fire seasons 1 and 2. Bode and Audrey’s key bonding moments included sharing stories about prisonas they both knew what it was like to be incarcerated and find hope for the future in the prison fire camps, making this experience pivotal for both. Sharon, not knowing anything about it, was very vocal about how little she and Bode discussed his time in prison.
Bode can’t fully close the door on his prison past until his loved ones understand his experience
Bode is focused on his future, but must not forget his past
Bode, having disappeared from the Leones’ lives for years before going to prison, makes it harder to blame Sharon for not knowing about the prison. However, Land of Fire the end of season 1 showed Sharon shut out Bode when he admitted to relapsing to get parole to help Freddythe sentence be annulled. While Vince tried to support Bode, Sharon effectively ran into the campaign fires and away from Bode and Vince, unable to deal with her son’s drug problem again, as she believed he was.
Bode may be focused on his future, but the fact that he’s still on parole makes it important that he stays on the right path, and not talking about his experience doesn’t make things any easier. Approaching his life after Three Rock to the exclusion of everything that came before risks pushing him into the deep end, making it critical for Sharon and Vince to let him feel welcome to share. tell them what happened in the years apart so that their bond can also be strengthened in Land of Fire season 3.
