Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito’s 7M Comedy Gets a Subtle Remake After 36 Years

Comedy by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito Twins is one of the last films from the 1980s that anyone would expect to get a remake – but it has quietly achieved the same with 2024 Brothers. Although the new comedy starring Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin is not directly related Twinsthe two films have too much in common to be ignored. This meant that Brothers it was a chance to fix the areas where the original 1988 film went wrong – but in truth, neither film was put together well enough to please critics.

Twins (1988) starred Schwarzenegger and DeVito as unlikely twin brothers who were separated at birth. The former, Julius, was intelligent, talented, and innocent, while the latter, Vincent, was a short, bald criminal. However, together they proved to be quite a team. The pair end up on a friends trip, resulting in questionable business ventures as they are pursued by those intent on taking Vincent’s life. Twins is quirky comedy at its most outrageous, and 2024 Brothers doubled a lot of that to a tee.

Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage’s 2024 Movie Brothers Is Very Similar to 1988’s Twins

Two films of a similar mold

The similarities between Twins and Brothers have been clear since the latest film was first announced. They are tonally similar, falling into the heist crime comedy genreand both are buddy road trip movies. The characters themselves are also similar. Brolin is the picture of an action star, but his character’s personality is much calmer and more cautious in Brothersvery similar to Schwarzenegger’s Julius. Dinklage’s Jady, on the other hand, is the perfect, charismatic, petty criminal who is utterly ruthless, like DeVito’s character in Twins.

Of course, Twins and Brothers also present some significant differences. The 1988 film addressed the physical differences between Schwarzenegger and DeVito, which served as the film’s main source of comedy. THEOn the other hand, the Brothers allowed the contrast between Brolin and Dinklage’s physicality to remain part of the unspoken nuance, while the differences in their personalities took center stage. The critical reception of Brothers also improved in relation Twinsalbeit only slightly.
