Notice! Spoilers ahead for Chicago Med season 10, episode 7.
There’s an important silver lining to Archer’s big loss in Chicago Middle season 10, episode 7, ‘Family Matters’. Dean Archer is one of actor Steven Weber’s best roles and has been an important part of Chicago Middle cast since season 6. He arrived at Gaffney Medical Center to serve as acting head of the emergency room when Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) was recovering from a serious illness and unable to run the department. During “Family Matters,” Archer is more focused on getting Lenox (Sarah Ramos) removed as emergency room co-chief than he is on patient care.
Archer is also tangentially involved in a fun subplot in which the residents gamble to get someone to buy them drinks at Molly’s that night. That said, Archer should be excluded because he is known for not having bought a round in the past, which goes against how Archer and Hannah’s friendship in Chicago Middle It’s your only relationship. In “Family Matters”, however, Archer ends up with the pin anyway and his reaction suggests that the battle for the ED chief position is not over despite his apparent loss.
Archer’s rivalry with Lenox and relegation explained
The animosity between the two has been brewing all season
Archer and Lenox have disliked each other since she was first introduced. Things came to a head on Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 6 when Lenox ignored Archer’s recommendation and performed risky brain surgery on a 16-year-old who was in a coma. Archer felt the surgery was too dangerous, but it was overruled by the board. When the patient died, he blamed Lenox, who responded, “You may live in an alternative world where you are always right, but in the meantime, I live in the reality where we sometimes lose patients.“
From him [Archer’s] His decision to interrupt Lenox’s case review meeting to accuse her of medical malpractice and refuse to let her speak made him look like an unpleasant person with an ax to grind.
Archer used this exchange as the basis to demand that Lenox be removed from his position, but, unsurprisingly, his move backfired. His decision to interrupt Lenox’s case review meeting to accuse her of medical malpractice and refuse to let her speak made him look like an unpleasant person with an ax to grind. Furthermore, Goodwin is unimpressed with his argument that Lenox was too full of himself to be a good DE boss, pointing out that his claims about his arrogance were “the pot calling the kettle.”
Ultimately, after talking to the team about Lenox’s behavior, Goodwin decides to demote Archer instead of her. Most of the team don’t want to say anything bad about Lenox considering her position, resulting in Goodwin making her the sole head of the DE. Normally, this is something that would irritate Archer. Despite his previous behavior, Archer does not show any negative emotions related to this news, which is curious.
Archer’s demotion helps him socialize with his coworkers
After all, he surprises everyone by buying a round
After receiving the news of his demotion, Archer heads to Molly’s, the bar where everyone from A Chicago Show hangs out after work and shocks everyone by buying a round. Archer appears much calmer and more relaxed than he has since arriving in Chicago, which suggests that in at least one respect his demotion is good news. Archer is apparently relieved of the burden of running the hospital and is more open to socializing than it has been in the past.
To be successful in this endeavor, Archer needs to create relationships with people he hasn’t put effort into until now.
Archer may look like he’s casually lying down Chicago Middle season 10, episode 7, but he’s a strategic thinker, so he could be trying to put the pieces in place to get back to being head of the ED. To be successful in this endeavor, Archer needs to create relationships with people he hasn’t put effort into until now. He is essentially starting from scratch and trying to build trust and relationships with the other team members now that he is not responsible for the continued existence of the entire emergency department.
How Archer’s new relationship with the team paves the way for his redemption
He can get support in his quest to take down Lenox
Archer and Lenox are equally nasty during “Family Matters,” making it clear who would ultimately prevail and worse, leaving the audience with no one to root for. Archer’s new relationship with his team members could change that for him. The team previously excluded him from the game because they assumed he did not want to participate. This makes it difficult for anyone to support or like him.
Rebuilding your relationships with team members. Chicago MiddleArcher can get people on his side who can support him if he asks Goodwin to review the issue of who she is nominating to be head of the emergency department. Even if his attempt is unsuccessful, Archer, by creating authentic relationships, can transform his character. He can go from a borderline villain to a protagonist who has strong feelings about how medicine should be practiced, which is a win for the audience.
