Arcane Team Hypes Intense Season 2 Moments and Teases Vi and Jinx’s Final Scene

Arcane returns this month for the second and final season, which will be released on Netflix in three acts. Located in League of Legends universe, this series focuses on sisters Violet (Hailee Steinfeld) and Powder (Ella Purnell) as they end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its underbelly whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors. By the end of Season 1, Powder had become a fan favorite League of Legends character Jinx.

Arcane The first season solidified Netflix’s position as a leader in adapting gaming franchises into animated cultural phenomenons. Praised globally as one of the Best TV Shows of 2021, the adult animated series also won four Primetime Emmy Awards (2022), including Best Animated Program – the first streaming series to win this award. The final chapter of Arcane premieres on Netflix in three distinct acts: Act One on November 9th, Act Two on November 16th, and Act Three on November 23rd.

SscreenRant interviewed Ellen Thomas (Ambessa Medarda), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Brett Tucker (Singed), Christian Linke (Creator/Executive Producer) and Amanda Overton (Writer) in the red premiere on carpet Arcane season 2. They tease what fans can expect from the upcoming season, as well as reveal what their love for the first season meant to them. The cast and creatives also explain what the iconic Arcane The line, “In the pursuit of the great, we fail at the good,” means to them.

Vi and Jinx’s last scene together has been the mystery writers’ guiding light since the beginning

“We wrote the last scene together six years ago. And that has never changed. It has remained our North Star, our guiding light for the entire series, throughout its creation.”

Screen Rant: What can you say about season 2?

Amanda Overton: There’s hardly an episode at the end where I don’t cry for one reason or another, but I cry happily. So there are at least two episodes where I cry happily every time. And there are some that I might need to look away from. It’s really sad to see this over and over again. But that, to me, is if you can get a range of emotions, of expressing feelings like that, as a writer, as a storyteller, and you’re doing your job.

Screen Rant: Is there anything you can tease about the sisters’ journey?

Amanda Overton: I love them so much. What I can say is the way we wrote that scene, I think we wrote the last scene together six years ago. And that never changed. She remained our North Star, our guiding light for the entire series throughout its creation. I think everything we changed and added to the series just made it even more powerful. And I’m excited.

Arcane season 2’s animation is bigger than season 1’s

“Visually, I would say Season 2 is leagues above Season 1.”

Screen Rant: What can you tease for season 2?

Christian Linke: In terms of animation, we definitely went bigger. The first season involved a lot of foundation building, technical aspects, making sure we could do these things well. In season two, we could just dream bigger, if you will. So, visually, I would say the second season is head and shoulders above the first.

Screen Rant: One of my favorite lines from Season 1 of Arcane is, “In the pursuit of good, we fail to do good.” What does this line mean to you?

Christian Linke: It’s funny you mention that line. I think it’s easy to be seduced or distracted by the shiny thing. It’s easy to just focus on big explosions and stylish cinematic visuals. I think it all comes down to telling a great story and having great characters, and we really try to do that. Whether we succeed or not, this is what our audience will tell us, in a merciless way.

Our audience is: I’ll see after tonight if I need to go into hiding or use witness protection, but I really think they need to be good stories. Otherwise all the visual effects do nothing.

Brett Tucker felt the immense pressure to top Arcane’s first season

“I have to bring my A game to season two.”

Screen Rant: What did it mean to you that fans embraced the first season so much?

Brett Tucker: It’s a lot, you know what I mean? It’s incredible, obviously. It’s nothing but positive. It was incredible, especially considering how long, even before, how long we had been working on the first season. I remember seeing the character breakdown. It was a long time ago. So seeing the response was phenomenal. But also seeing from a distance, seeing the way fans interact with each other and the investment they make in that. It’s so incredible. But then it’s like, okay, I have to bring my A game to season two. The pressure is on, you know what I mean? You have to support this.

Amirah Vann thanks Sevika for representing all the strong women in her life

“All the characters I play are incredible women.”

Screen Rant: What did it mean to you that fans embraced the first season so much?

Amirah Vann: I think Christian and Alex did an amazing job. The creative team, they were all geniuses. It’s their baby. I’m really happy to be a part of this and play such a badass character. She represents all the strong women in my life.

Screen Rant: Is that where you draw inspiration from?

Amirah Vann: Always. Every character I play is an incredible woman.

Everyone is about to understand what’s coming in Arcane Season 2, according to Mick Wingert

“Prepare for everyone to pay the consequences for all their choices.”

Screen Rant: What You Can Tease Arcane 2nd season?

Mick Wingert: The way I would put season two is to prepare for everyone to pay the consequences for all their choices. And that should be mind-blowing in itself, because there were some very dramatic choices made in the first season. Everything from kicking Heimerdinger out of the Council to Heimerdinger meeting Ekko, to Jinx’s actions at the end (spoiler alert for season one), Jinx’s actions at the end of season one, Vi’s actions, Caitlyn, everyone is coming to the limit and everything matters. Nothing goes to waste and I can’t wait for fans to try it. It will be the next level.

Ellen Thomas looks nothing like her mysterious character, Ambessa

“I have the opportunity to truly be the powerful, the strongest, the most evil.”

Screen Rant: What did you most enjoy exploring in Season 2 of Arcane?

Ellen Thomas: How Power Corrupts. Seriously, seriously, big time. I think for me it was a turning point. I still love her, though.

Screen Rant: How do you get into Ambessa’s mindset?

Ellen Thomas: Oh my God. I channel because I’m not like that and I have the opportunity to truly be the powerful, the strongest, the most evil. Because in real life I’m not even close to that.

Reed Shannon was excited to explore Ekko’s vulnerabilities in Arcane Season 2

“It’s nice to see that side of him and see him be a little bit geeky and really be who he is fully.”

Screen Rant: What were the fan reactions Arcane did the first season mean to you?

Reed Shannon: It was beautiful. I was actually talking to my friend about this the other day, because it took so long to make the second season, but to see how many people fall in love with the show over time. I saw someone tweet last week. They said, I just watched it for the first time. I could never wait three years for this.

Screen Rant: What were you most excited to explore in Season 2?

Reed Shannon: A little more about Ekko’s vulnerabilities. Do you know what I mean? And just understanding why he does the things he does and how he feels about them. He’s such a strong guy all the time, or tries to be, so it’s nice to see that side of him and see him become a little geeky and really be who he is fully.
