One Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fan found an ingenious way to honor the memory of the villagers who left his island. ACNH Islands can only house 10 villagers at a time in addition to players, which can sometimes lead to difficult decisions. Getting new characters to move to the island requires another villager to move in, essentially replacing them in the neighborhood.
To have the perfect grouping of villagers in ACNH, Reddit user Quick Morning-3876 had to expel several other villagers to make room. Their sacrifices were not in vain, as the Redditor said kept their memory alive by building them a small cemetery. The title of the Reddit post is not so kind, saying “RIP to my villagers who passed by (I kicked them out for better ones).“
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Player celebrates characters who have moved on
Some ACNH residents are not as popular as others
The image shared by Fast-Morning-3876 shows his character standing and scowling in the middle of a small but tidy cemetery. The cemetery has several “Western-style stone” outdoor furniture lined up in neat rows and each tombstone has a photo of a villager propped in front of it. The entire land is surrounded by a stone fence.
Some ACNH Villagers have become fan favorites and are on many players’ wish lists, while others are not as popular. There are more than 400 residents in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and, naturally, not every character appeals to every player. Many comments are incredulous that the Redditor kicked out their favorite villagers. A few others chimed in to assure everyone that some of the residents are alive and well, living their best lives on their islands.
Our take: This is an ingenious way to remember characters who left the island
The departing villagers are not dead, although
It can be painful to know that there is a “better” option that will replace you in your home, and some residents definitely play the guilt card when they are thinking about leaving the island. All the villagers who lived on my island left their mark on it (yes, even Rocket, who will certainly be remembered, if not forgotten). Making a cemetery is a somber and lovely way to honor memory of each character who passed through the island at some point in its history.
There’s just one problem with this idea: the characters who leave the island aren’t necessarily “the ones who left.” The villagers who leave the island are just moving somewhere else. In fact, players can even invite a villager who has moved away to join them for coffee at the Roost using an Amiibo and they will remember living on the island. Hopefully Fast-Morning-3876 will never do this as it will be awkward trying to explain a Animal Crossing: New Horizon the villager’s grave for that villager.
