Animal Crossing: New Horizons are perplexed as to why Nintendo didn’t make the lawnmower an actual functional tool. Reddit user I will bite you reached the community in Animal crossing subReddit, asking for advice on how to clear a field of flowers. The user wanted to build in the space and hoped not to have to remove them one by one as it would be a tedious process. Unfortunately, there appears to be no other way to remove flowers and weeds quickly, although the comments are still full of encouragement and some ideas, such as using the trash can to dispose of unwanted foliage.
But Mountain Level9672 left a comment that resonates with the Animal crossing community, questioning Nintendo’s choice not to make the lawnmower a functional item in the game. They write that when they started playing, they immediately bought the lawnmower, hoping to be able to use it to quickly get rid of flowers and weeds like its real-world counterpart, but “I realized later that it is not a usable tool as [the] shovel.”
The game ignoring this very obvious way to use the lawnmower It seems like an oversight on Nintendo’s part. The Redditor remains desperate, asking: “IT’S RIGHT THERE FROM NINTENDO, SO WHY NOT?!“
A lawn mower in ACNH would make sense for removing unwanted flowers
Players are often disappointed to find it useless
Currently, the only way to remove flowers and weeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to take them one at a time. Although Leif removes weeds for a large sum of 100 thousand bells, there needs to be over 300 weeds on the players’ island to trigger this, making it functionally useless and very expensive for the typical player.
The lawn mower is a simple decoration but some fans thought it was a tool that could be used to cut grass and remove flowers easily. This is not the first time that a ACNH The player tripped over the useless lawnmower, much to his extreme disappointment. Reddit user melodiehnoon was similarly scammed five years ago, writing: “I bought a lawn mower thinking I could pull out all the weeds quickly and easily… waited a whole day to get it in the mail and found out it’s literally just for decoration!“
Our Take: More Animal Crossing Decor Should Be Functional
What’s the point of a lawn mower that doesn’t cut the grass?
Although most non-tool items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons aren’t functional, that hasn’t stopped gamers from wishing Nintendo had added just a few more fun extras to their furniture and decor. Some items can interact in small but cute ways, like turning lamps on or off, rotating the globe, playing certain instruments, and so on. Even the lawnmower, although not actually functional, makes a lawnmower sound when it is moved.
But there is definitely some decorative items that look like they should work as advertised. The lawnmower, for example, must be able to cut the grass, the toolbox must contain the tools, and the umbrella stand must be able to display the player’s umbrellas. Other fun decor items like pools and carnival rides can’t be used either, and the community was thrilled to discover that there is a glitch that allows players to use the game’s hot tub.
Maybe the next title to follow Animal Crossing: New Horizons will have more opportunities to interact with decorations and furniture. At the very least, players can hope that Nintendo adds a way to easily and quickly remove weeds and flowers from the island instead of picking them one by one.
