Marvel fan points out how sad the MCU is Spider-Man: No Way Home is with the addition of flashbacks to Gwen Stacy's death from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man: No Way HomeThe finale ended several characters, including all of the multiversal villains, as well as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Spider-Man: No Way HomeThe multiversal Sinister Five were all cured, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man got a motivation boost, and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man came to terms with Gwen Stacy's death by single-handedly saving MJ.
On Xuser @fatfabfeminista shares a video edit of Spider-Man: No Way Homethe final battle which includes footage of Gwen Stacy from The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. These memories of Gwen Stacy's life and death must have been exactly what Garfield's Peter Parker had in mind when saving MJ from Zendaya. Check out the video below:
What Spider-Man: No Way Home Gwen Stacy's Video Edit Means
The MCU May Still Directly Recognize Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy
Peter Parker's emotional reaction to saving MJ in Spider-Man: No Way HomeThe final battle makes it clear that he remembers his failure to save his timeline's Gwen Stacy. This moment ends Peter's tragic romantic life and motivates him to continue wearing the costume with pride when he returns to his original universe. But while Spider-Man: No Way Homethe subtle nod to Gwen Stacy's death is tasteful, There's still a lot of potential in a more direct acknowledgment of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy in a future MCU film.
Including images of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: No Way Home could have made MJ's near-death moment a more emotional moment, but it also could have been a little confusing for viewers who aren't familiar with the Amazing Spider-Man films. If Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy were to return in the future, the MCU could have her appear in a timeline where she didn't die or introduce a new variant who gets spider powers instead of Peter Parker. In comics and Spider-Verse films, Gwen Stacy becomes Ghost Spider/Spider-Woman in a timeline where Peter Parker dies.
Our Take on Spider-Man: No Way Home Gwen Stacy Video Editing
Spider-Man: No Way Home had to keep its cameos to a minimum
Spider-Man: No Way Home had to deal with many delays during production, and the studios had to go to great lengths to keep all of its multiversal characters secret until release. In fact, Thomas Hayden-Church and Rhys Ifans were unable to be on set due to quarantine restrictions. It was almost impossible for Spider-Man: No Way Home to add characters like Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-ManAunt Mays, Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy. Since Spider-Man: No Way Home did not bring back supporting characters from the previous ones Spider-Man films, the Phase 4 film also didn't feature them in flashbacks.
