Black Tarantula, a multigenerational villain, debuts a new costume
The villain is now facing Spider-Gwen
Black Tarantula is a villainous mantle passed from father to son for more than seven hundred years. Black Tarantula is a Spider-Man villain who also deals with Daredevil and Elektra from time to time. Not only is the title passed on, but so are the powers of the Black Tarantula, via a special serum, which includes superhuman strength and other enhanced abilities, optical blasts, a healing factor, and possibly even immortality. While this last power has not been proven, Carlos LaMuerto, the permeable Black Tarantula, claims it is true and definitely has some sort of enhanced longevity.
Fabian LaMuerto was groomed by his father, Carlos LaMuerto, the permeable Black Tarantula, to one day take up the mantle for himself.
The previous Black Tarantula, Carlos LaMuerto, was a crime lord with territories in South America and parts of Europe. Carlos and his Brazilian wife, Marina Caches, had a child together, but after discovering Carlos' illegal activities, she divorced him and took the child with her. Carlos sent paid ninjas and assassins to New York City to bring his son back, but when all that failed, he made the trip himself. Now, with him and his son Fabian reunited, they have an entire army of soldiers dressed as Black Tarantula as they face Ghost Spider to prove who is right.

Fabian LaMuerto was groomed by his father to one day take on the mantle of the Black Tarantula. Carlos admits that his father took him away from his mother to start training before he could even walk, but Fabian's mother tried to keep him away from his destinynot wanting him to become like his father. In the previous issue, Carlos finally gets his wish by initiating Fabian as the next Black Tarantula and giving him the serum that grants them their powers.
In Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #7, Fabian puts on a stylish new suit and fights his father's fight. Gwen discusses the evil Black Tarantula with Jessica Jones. He was arrested, but was eventually released and left the country. Although his methods were violent, his intentions tended to be noble. When Fabian confronts Gwen in his elegant black suit and ghostly cape, he explains that working within the system is a flawed method, like rolling a boulder up a hill only to have it fall again. Fabian plans to make his own system and promises that his results will be maintained.
Black Tarantula Is a Perfect Contrast to Spider-Man That the MCU Desperately Needs
Fabian LaMuerto updates the villain's mantle
Spider-Man has always had a distinct idea of what is right and wrong to do. He has a code and he follows it. The MCU's Spider-Man has already had an encounter with Green Goblin where he considered breaking his code, but that was out of pure emotion. If he faced a villain like Fabian LaMuerto who committed noble acts while operating outside the system, could seriously test Spider-Man's loyalty to his code. Spider-Man, as a character, already goes beyond the limits of the law, operating as a masked vigilante to exact justice.
At a time when Spider-Man is in the MCU becoming his own hero away from Avengers-level threats, now more than ever he needs to figure out what kind of hero he wants to be. Black Tarantula being a lesser-known villain from the comics and Fabian LaMuerto being a new character he would bring a breath of fresh air to the MCU's Spider-Man stories. Black Tarantula could have more run-ins in the MCU with other heroes like Daredevil, not just Spider-Man. Not only is her story important, but her costume was made for the big screen.
Fabian's black leather suit with silver spider designs and a flowing ghostly cape looks impressive as it fills comic book panels, twisting and stretching in all directions, but it just doesn't do it justice the way the CGI of a budget MCU movie would do. The contrast of of Spider-Man bright red and blue drowned in Black Tarantula the black cape would perfectly represent their contrast in methods.
