Amy's final years were chaotic
Major life changes
When 1000 Pound Sisters premiered in 2020, Amy was a happily married newlywed. She and her husband, Michael Halterman, seemed to be made for each other. Michael was deeply devoted to Amy and his familyeven helping her care for her sister, Tammy Slaton, who depended on the newlyweds for many of her daily needs. The couple were desperate to have children, but when they did, everything changed. Amy was overwhelmed by having two young children to care for and simply didn't feel like Michael was giving her enough support.
Amy not only felt that Michael wasn't helping enough with the boys' care, but she also resented him for not making enough money. After spending much of the 1000 Pound Sisters fighting in season 5, Amy and Michael announced their divorce in 2022. They were married for four years and had two young children togetherwho they now co-parent. Although Amy and Michael seem to be getting along well now, adjusting to single motherhood hasn't been easy for her.
After her unexpected divorce from Michael Halterman, Amy suddenly found herself alone with two boys. Fortunately, her sister, 43-year-old Amanda Halterman, had just returned from Florida after a bad breakup and needed a place to stay. ONEManda went to live with her sisterand helped with the two boys. Amy enjoyed the company, but Amanda ended up moving away. By the time Amanda left, Amy and her children had already found their groove as a little family. The Slatons are a close-knit family, and it was probably comforting for Amy to have her sister around.

What's in store for Amy in 2025?
She wants more surgery
Losing so much weight so quickly changed Amy's life drastically for the better. This has made her healthier and she has more energy than ever, which helps her raise her children. While losing weight was great for Amy, losing so much weight so quickly also had a downside as it left Amy with excess loose skin. Amy has been desperate to do something about the extra skin for a while. Excess skin is not only aesthetically less than ideal, it is also extremely heavy and uncomfortable.
Loose excess also presents unique health challenges because it makes it harder to keep your skin clean and dry, which can lead to infections.
The only way to remove excess skin is through a series of expensive and risky surgical procedures. Amy was desperate to have skin removal surgery and hoped to receive approval from her doctor soon. During 1000 Pound Sisters Season 6, Amy went to see her doctor. Although he was impressed with her weight loss progress, he wanted her to lose another 30 pounds before he gave her the green light for skin removal surgery. Amy hopes to be able to move forward with the procedures in 2025.
