All the Sims news we're looking forward to in 2025

As 2024 comes to an end, The Sims 4 officially crosses more than a decade of activity. This advanced age does not mean that the game is slowing down, as EA has confirmed that The Sims 4 will continue to receive updateswith new experiences and content arriving in 2025. Along with improved The Sims 4 is the Rene Project, which is still in development without a set release date in 2025.

In a recent blog post, EA shared that players have logged more than 1.2 billion hours in The Sims 4with 303 million hours in build mode and 759 million hours in live mode. These massive numbers prove that The Sims 4 is as alive and popular as ever. With another game in progress and an entire team dedicated to improving The Sims 4 core experience, players have a lot to look forward to in 2025. Here's what to expect.

Expect more news about Project Rene, but there's likely no release date

Players will have to be patient in 2025

While The Sims 4 continued steadily, Maxis and EA also I have been working on the Rene Project in recent years. This project was initially thought to be The Sims 5but the developers have confirmed that this is not the case. Instead, Project Rene it will be a totally separate game for players to have fun alongside The Sims 4, although it is still untitled. More solid news about Project Rene will likely emerge in 2025, as the game had a small invite-only playtest in Fall 2024, but any release date information is unlikely.

So far, EA has confirmed some aspects of Project Rene. An important update is that it will be free to playas confirmed in September 2023 on Behind The Simsa series about The Sims' official YouTube channel. Behind The Sims in January 2023 also confirmed that Project Rene will have multiplayerbut explained that “Project Rene is not an MMO.” Instead, the game will be more like Animal Crossing: New Horizonswhere players can play in their own separate space and then invite friends to join them. Additionally, an EA blog post confirmed Project Rene will have crossplay between PC and mobile.

With all this news confirmed, we still it doesn't seem likely that EA will announce a 2025 release date. The Rene Project has been in testing since 2022 and, despite the transparent development process, doesn't seem close to being ready. While a long development process can sometimes be frustrating, giving developers the opportunity the time they need usually means a better product for players to enjoy for years afterward.

More content for The Sims 4

New expansions, packs and more

In the EA blog post mentioned above, the company confirmed new The Sims 4 will be released in 2025. However, what exactly what the content will be is still a mystery, although players can enjoy holiday content released for The Sims 4. 2024 only saw two major expansion packs released, Love Struck and Life and Deathso 2025 will likely have a similar number. While Maxis and EA have not confirmed any specific content for 2025it seems likely that there will be some kind of anniversary event for the series. February 2025 will be the 25th anniversary of the seriesas The Sims was first released on February 4, 2000.

Hopefully, The Sims 4 will release a throwback or expansion pack. Any package that includes vintage items or clothing for that Y2K vibe from the first game they would be fantastic, like the inflatable chairs and the iconic aquarium. An item that was definitely supposed to appear but somehow never did The Sims 4 and the bed of the heart. It seems like a no-brainer that The Sims 4 will have some kind of birthday celebration, but bigger would be better, so ideally it will be more than a bundle of stuff.

Say goodbye to The Sims 5

No sequel to the main series is coming

EA confirmed that There is no direct sequel in progress to The Sims 4. The traditional format of releasing a major game with a new number after the title has apparently been broken, such as Instead, EA is focused on continuing to support The Sims 4. Any player who hopes to The Sims 5 will have to settle for more The Sims 4 happy for now. EA Vice President Kate Groman stated in early 2024: “We will not work on replacements for previous projects. We'll only be adding to our universe.”

Next to the confirmation that the Rene Project is not The Sims 5Groman's statement makes it clear that EA and Maxis see there's no point in leaving The Sims 4 when you still make money consistently from its expansions, object packs and kits. Instead of starting over with a new game, developers prefer focus on building the existing community of creators and players while simultaneously improving The Sims 4 experience. Although it may seem ambitious to maintain a decade-old game that lasts even longer without updatesThis business model has been proven to work with a dedicated communitylike games like Grand theft auto 5 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are still strong.

Expect a cleaner Sims 4 in 2025

Fewer bugs, but more details from a decade-old game

As The Sims 4 enters its tenth year, the game has received special attention for bug fixes and improvements. In May 2024, EA announced that a special team dedicated to “core gaming experience” was created and in a September blog post, EA confirmed that the team has invested even more in “efforts to focus on previously reported issues, quality assurance, and game optimization for future releases.”

Additionally, the team will continue to release new fixes every two months until further noticeso fans can look forward to a more stable experience with your Sims in 2025. With a game this big, and a practically infinite number of mods and creator content attached to it, Keeping bugs under control can be quite a task for developers. Updates include basic bug fixes like identifying why certain mods crash or adding fun details to The Sims 4such as Sims reacting differently to the death of other Sims depending on their relationships.

Whether you're a builder, a Family Simmer, or a Create-a-Sim fan, there should be a lot to look forward to The Sims 4 in 2025. While it's unlikely we'll get an entirely new game, it's clear that EA and the team behind the game have plenty of plans to keep us invested in The Sims 4.
