bad idea, right?

Album: GUTS

Olivia Rodrigo starts GUTS World Tour with the energetic song “bad idea, right?” which includes fun lyrics like “I only see him as a friend (biggest lie I’ve ever told).” Rodrigo appears in a shiny silver outfit complete with fishnets and immediately has the crowd loudly singing along with her, with the huge screen behind her following her movements in her signature purple color. Rodrigo’s jumps, head bangs and high kicks had the desired effect, and the audience ended the song with a huge wave of screams.

Rodrigo’s jumps, headbutts and high kicks have the desired effect.

ballad of a girl who studies at home

Album: GUTS

From “bad idea, right?” Rodrigo immediately enters the “ballad of a homeschooled girl”, another song from his new album, Stomach. This song is similar in energy level and tone to “bad idea, right?”, although Rodrigo briefly slows things down by dropping to his knees and singing a little lower. By the end of the song, though, she’s back on her feet, spinning in circles as lights flash behind her.

vampire

Album: GUTS

It’s between the “ballad of a homeschooled girl” and the next song, “vampiro”, that Rodrigo addresses the audience, shouting: “How are you tonight, Los Angeles?” Rodrigo then welcomes the audience to the GUTS World Tour and acknowledges that this is his hometown show. After that, Rodrigo starts “vampiro”, a song that accelerates the rhythm, but is still a more emotional and painful song than either of the first two on the set list.

traitor

Album: Sour

Rodrigo’s next song, “traidor”, continues the darker tone of “vampire”, although it slows things down a lot more. This song, like many others from her first studio album, Souraddresses heartbreak and betrayal with lyrics like, “Remember I mentioned her and you told me I was paranoid?” The crowd sings along with Rodrigo throughout the song, and the camera cuts to several emotional spectators.

driver’s license

Album: Sour

After “traitor” comes “driver’s license”, another song from Sour. This song is without a doubt one of Rodrigo’s best known, and the crowd screams with excitement when the song starts and quickly joins in when the lyrics begin. This song also shows Rodrigo sitting at the piano and maintains the tone of the previous songs, although Rodrigo continues to smile at the audience throughout the song.

teenage dream

Album: GUTS

Rodrigo stays at the piano for the next song, “Teenage Dream,” and clips of young Olivia Rodrigo play in the background on the screen as she sings. The images of Rodrigo as a young girl add to the emotion of the already devastating song, which reaches its peak at the very end of the song, when young Rodrigo can be heard saying: “Hello, my name is Olivia, I’m five years old and it’s a true honor to meet you here tonight.” Throughout the song, the audience is shown, some of whom have tears visible on their faces.

beautiful is not beautiful

Album: GUTS

There is a clear tonal shift in the next song, “pretty isn’t pretty”. Although the song’s theme – the struggle with feelings of self-loathing – is still very heavy, Rodrigo stands up and she appears on stage alongside her dancers, all holding large lollipops. The song also includes Rodrigo and the dancers leaning on each other, a visible, physical representation of supporting each other in what is a very relatable experience of struggling with self-image.

love is embarrassing

Album: GUTS

The next song, “love is embarrassing”, brings back Rodrigo’s jumping, stomping and playful smiles, alongside lyrics like “You found a new version of me and I almost started World War III.” and she brings the energy back to the stadium by accompanying the darker songs. It is also after this song that Rodrigo draws attention to his dancers, backing vocals and musicians. Rodrigo names each of them and gives them the opportunity to introduce themselves while the crowd applauds.

The next song, “love is embarrassing”, brings back Rodrigo’s jumping, stomping and playful smiles.

making the bed

Album: GUTS

The next song on the program, “make the bed”, shows Rodrigo lying on the floor while the lights come on behind her. This song is another heavy one, with reflections like, “Sometimes I feel like I don’t want to be where I am.” This song, perhaps more than any other in GUTS World Tourtakes on a visually artistic touch, with Rodrigo contorting his body on the floor, sometimes not even singing.

logical

Album: GUTS

Following the silent sadness of “making the bed”, “logical” sees Rodrigo balancing on a large moon, which moves in the air alongside countless stars. Throughout the song, Rodrigo moves through the crowd, waving to fans as he goes. This song also includes clips of the audience crying and getting emotional as Rodrigo sings lyrics like, “I know I’m kind of responsible and it makes me feel horrible.”

enough for you

Album: Sour

Rodrigo is over the moon for the next song, “enough for you,” although she first acknowledges that she will be playing six shows in Los Angeles, again referring to it as her hometown. This song is another addition to Rodrigo’s first studio album Sourand, like many songs in the show, it’s full of emotion. With lyrics like, “All I ever wanted was to be enough for you” the music is sad, but Rodrigo lightens the mood by continuing to move through the crowd on the moon, pointing to certain audiences and waving, keeping his smile the entire time.

lacy

Album: GUTS

Rodrigo is back on stage for the next song, “lacy”. For this song, Rodrigo stands on a raised circular part of the stage, while his dancers move on the floor around him. In truth, “lacy” is perhaps the song that most emphasizes the dancerssince, at one point, they even stand in front of Rodrigo on stage, using hair ribbons to connect them.

so american

Album: GUTS

Before “so American”, Rodrigo talks about how wonderful it is to be home and highlights that, although he enjoyed drinking wine in Italy and eating escargot in France, he missed In-N-Out Burger and is, appropriately, “so American.” This song is much more upbeat than the previous ones in the set list, and Rodrigo even runs around the stage holding his guitar. At the end of this song, the audience also passes cowboy hats to Rodrigo and bassist Moa Munoz who said “Gays 4 Liv,” that Munoz and Rodrigo wore.

jealousy, jealousy

Album: Sour

The next song, “Jealousy, Jealousy” is similar in tone to “So American”, at least in terms of energy, but the audience changes rhythm excitingly when Rodrigo starts walking through the crowd during the song. Fans can be seen reaching out to touch Rodrigo’s hands as she passes by and trying to take photos and videos as she stops at a location and sings directly to a group. An even bigger surprise was announced shortly after this song, however, when Rodrigo revealed that he would be bringing a special guest to the stage.

An even bigger surprise was announced immediately after this song.

HOT TO GO!

Album: The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess

Rodrigo surprisingly brought singer-songwriter Chappell Roanand together they sang one of Roan’s most popular songs, “HOT TO GO!” Rodrigo and Roan took turns singing the lyrics and dancing, sometimes also singing side by side. The audience seemed as excited about this guest and the surprise song as they were about Rodrigo’s other songs, and GUTS World Tour it showed the crowd dancing and singing along.

happier

Album: Sour

After the high-energy song “HOT TO GO!” Roan left the stage and Rodrigo slowed down a lot once again with the song “happier” by Sour. During this song, Rodrigo sat on the stage floor next to guitarist Daisy Spencer. Together, Spencer and Rodrigo smile even in lyrics like “I hope you’re happy, but not like you were with me.” Rodrigo also comments that the public has “tubes”, which gets a massive response.

favorite crime

Album: Sour

Spencer and Rodrigo stay in the room for “favorite crime,” which is similar in theme and tone to “happiest.” This song also cuts to various audience members passionately singing the lyrics, and even Spencer starts singing the lyrics at certain points. Rodrigo also sings excerpts from this song, bringing even more emotion to the stage, but ends by smiling and blowing a kiss to the audience.

déjà vu

Album: Sour

Another of Rodrigo’s best-known songs, “déjà vu”, is met with thunderous applause when it begins, and the audience proves they know the song when Rodrigo asks them to sing the lyrics. They sing, “So when are you going to tell her we did this too? She thinks it’s special, but it’s all repurposed.” without Rodrigo, at which point she resumes the lyrics. Rodrigo continues to make different sides of the audience sing specific parts.

the grudge

Album: GUTS

Rodrigo follows “déjà vu” with the saddest song “the rancor” on STOMACH. This song includes hard-hitting lyrics like “We both got blood drawn, but man, these cuts were never the same.” and “How could anyone do the things you did so easily?” At some points in this song, unlike many others, Rodrigo also appears upset, and while this could certainly be part of his performance, it would make sense for such heavy lyrics to make an impact on stage.

brutal

Album: Sour

One of Rodrigo’s most energetic songs, “brutal”, comes next and shows Rodrigo in a new bright red outfit, which matches the change in mood between “the grudge” and “brutal”. The song’s popularity is evident in the crowd’s screams, jumps and singing, and Rodrigo increases the energy in the stadium even further by once again jumping, dancing and leaping around the stage. The song also includes brilliant guitar and drum solos from the musicians, giving them a moment to shine.
