The new film is also a huge box office success, having grossed around $793 million worldwide after just four weekends in theaters. In addition to surpassing the worldwide gross of the original film, which grossed just US$643.3 million worldwide at the end of its entire theatrical run, the reported Moana 2 $150 million budget means its break-even point was probably somewhere around $375 million, so any additional ticket sales are probably already in the realm of pure profit. Our take on the Moana 3 concept trailer
Nalo's wrath is a likely prospect
While certain aspects of this concept trailer for a new Moana film could be used, due to its extreme intensity it seems unlikely that this will be the plot of the third installment. It also seems unlikely that the third film will be the last, considering how popular the franchise remains. However, the Moana 2 the end contains a configuration that implies that Nalo will come out of the shadows to become a major antagonist in a potential sequel, joining forces with the 2016 film's secondary antagonist, Tamatoa (Jemaine Clement).
