Status effects can be a huge nuisance in Marvel Rivals. While most do little to no damage, they leave your character uncontrollable and open to follow-up attacks. It is important to know what your enemy is capable of and how to avoid or neutralize such abilities. In mirror matches, it can be extremely useful to first use your own status effects to stop the enemy. However, it can also be important to not use a negative effect unnecessarily and save it for a big knockback or defense.
An important aspect is also to evaluate the composition of the enemy team and its allies in Marvel Rivals. A negative status effect isn't a problem if no one can properly utilize it. In most cases, these effects are used by Tacticians to escape or by Vanguards to get closer. If there aren't enough duelists to deal more damage, you might be totally fine after they're done. Additionally, a friendly strategist can help you recover any lost hit points.

The effects themselves can have a different name than the associated character ability, making them a bit confusing with the language switching. Your allies might say “Stunned”, “Web", or "Captured”But they mean the same thing.

How to avoid or escape negative status effects
Preemptively stop status effects
While the enemy is likely to use status effects, there are ways to prevent their effects or get rid of them faster. Almost all effects can be interrupted by the Vanguard's shield. This includes moves like Dr. Strange's Seraphim Shield, Hulk's Indestructible Guard, and Magneto's Metallic Curtain.
Negative status effects that hit a wide area, like Namor's Horn of Proteus, tend to have a large telegraphed marker on them. Marvel Rivals. Many enemies also have specific callouts compared to allies who use the same move. Instead of just moving away, use running and dodging skills. This could include Psylocke's Psi-Blade Dash, Iron Fist's K'un Lun Kick, and Star-Lord's Stellar Shift. Cloak and Dagger's eternal bond can fully remove the status effects the duo is inflicted. Not everyone is blessed to have these abilities, and less mobile heroes like Storm have few options.
But, the best overall method in Marvel Rivals is to avoid negative status effects in the first place. Interrupt the enemy's mid-range ability or simply deal enough damage quickly. If they cannot regroup and mobilize adequately, point capabilities will not be much of a threat.
