The best movies and shows are coming to Peacock this month
The force – October 1
In October, most streaming platforms look to capitalize on those interested in the upcoming Halloween holiday by adding a lot of horror content to their platform. For Peacock, a lot of the horror content is just female-centric this month.
One of the new movies on Peacock is The Force. Although a series inspired by the movie was made for Hulu, it is The cult classic that centers on a group of teenage girls at a private school who bond over their outsider status. They form their own alliance and begin to take revenge on the classmates who wronged them. Of course, they end up in over their heads when one member of their group continues to seek more and more power.
This is the perfect time of year to enjoy something like The Force Vichy content is in full swing, though most of it is over at Disney+ with more family-friendly options.
The Final Girls – October 1
A horror movie like a love letter to grief is not the usual name. That’s what makes The Ultimate Girls So special.
The Ultimate Girls is a more meta take on horror. It features a young woman who is grieving the loss of her mother. Her mother, however, was also maligned by her fans since she was the star of a cult classic slasher flick. When the young woman and her friends attend a screening of the horror movie, they find themselves trapped in the events of the movie and need to use the horror tropes they know to survive.
The Ultimate Girls is not just a great way to examine the genre or to explore grief. It also has a stellar cast with Taissa Farmiga in the lead role and Malin Akerman as her mother in the horror movie itself. Nina Dobrev and Adam Devine also have supporting roles.
The Harry Potter Movie Series – October 1st
Max has long been the streaming home of the Harry Potter Movies. In 2024, however, the movies were contracted to Peacock for a short period. Now, the eight movies that make up Harry’s school years and battle with Voldemort are back on Peacock for October.
The movies begin with Harry finding out he is a wizard and end with the battle of his life against one of the darkest wizards who ever lived. Although enjoyment of the franchise has waned for some in recent years, it’s easy to still love the movies that made Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson household names. The movies also make a who’s who of British cinema as so many heavyweight stars make incredible performances, such as Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith.
Of course, for fans who want a complete look at the wizarding world, the Fantastic animals Movies are still available on Max.
Jennifer’s Body – October 1
In keeping with the idea of Peacock seemingly celebrating women in horror, this underrated horror gem is also new to the streamer in October. Jennifer’s body Actually get a lot of streaming time from different platforms, especially this time of year. It’s also available to stream on Paramount+ this month.
The movie sees the titular Jennifer transformed into a succubus who needs to feed on humans to survive. Megan Fox is fantastic as Jennifer and Amanda Seyfried is just as necessary. The movie explores the complex relationship between the two best friends, but it also takes a lot of the horror tropes that have been used in the past for male coming-of-age stories and applies them to young women.
At the time of the movie’s release, it wasn’t particularly well received, however Jennifer’s body has become a cult classic that always sees talk of interest in a sequel crop up every few years.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie – October 3rd
For Peacock subscribers who have no interest in horror, there are also some great family options. The Super Mario Bros. Movie Makes a great adventure for kids who are attracted by the animation and for adults who have grown up playing the various video games. The movie is full of Nintendo Easter eggs for die-hard fans that will be easier to catch with multiple watches on streaming.
Here, Mario ends up in a whole new world when he and his brother attempt to work on a complex plumbing problem. In this new world, Luigi ends up kidnapped and Mario teams up with Princess Peach to go against the dreaded Bowser. With the addition of characters like Donkey Kong, a standout musical number and plenty of action, this is a movie that most families will want to see more than once.
Hysteria – October 18
For those Peacock subscribers who want their horror in a serial format instead of a movie format, there’s the new Peacock Original Series Hysteria! The cast includes Modern family Julie Bowen, Pitch Perfect’s Anna Camp, and the genre-hopping Bruce Campbell.
The new series took place in the 1980s and plays with the “Satanic Panic” that took American news by storm in those years. When the high school quarterback in a small town disappears, the residents are quick to blame some sort of satanic influence. Of course, a heavy metal group decides to use this interest in the occult to their advantage and rebrand their music as Satanic Metal instead. This leads directly to the members becoming the subject of the city’s witch.
Despicable Me October 4 – 31
Despicable Me 4 will be exclusively available to stream on Peacock starting on the last day of the month. The first two movies are already available on the streaming platform.
In the fourth installment of the franchise, Gru welcomes Gru Jr. to the family just as a new villain has escaped and seeks revenge. It has the same antics and fun of the first three movies, so it’s a great option for the whole family. Family-friendly options will certainly be welcome for Peacock subscribers with young kids since so much of the new content for the month is centered around horror movies.
During the month of October, Episodes of television that air on NBC-Universal owned networks will also air on Peacock the following day. The streaming service is also home to streaming other sporting events, including games for the NFL, but their availability on Peacock Depends on their schedules.
