All 13 Fast & Furious Villains, Ranked From Worst To Best

Although Dominic Toretto and his family were great heroes, the Fast and Furious Villains are a key part of the excitement of this franchise. As the series continues, it becomes more and more ridiculous, with the stakes rising with each film, and the same can be said for the villains. Dom and his family were already used to facing street criminals every day, but now they are fighting international supervillains.

Over the course of 20 years, many incredible actors have joined the franchise as villains, from award winners like Charlize Theron and Djimon Hounsou to huge movie stars like Dwayne Johnson. Many of the villains in Fast and Furious They end up being redeemed and joining the family, but they will always be remembered first and foremost as antagonists. There have been 13 major villains across 11 films, but some have proven to be much more memorable than others.

Brixton – Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

Played by Idris Elba

Idris Elba as Brixton looking angry in Hobbs & Shaw.

The only spin-off so far in Fast and Furious universe, Hobbs and Shaw makes a lot of mistakes, but the biggest one is wasting the talent of Idris Elba. Brixton is a biologically advanced superhuman who intends to destroy the world. That’s a fun premise for a bad guy, but it doesn’t fit the tone of the franchise, and Elba’s chiastic qualities are buried beneath dull exposition and a memorable plan.

As one of the few Fast and Furious villains died, Elba was truly wasted by the franchise. The actor tries to add some charisma to the role that is lacking, such as the funny meta moment when Brixton first appears in the opening action sequence, simply introducing himself as “bad guy“. However, the character never becomes anything interesting and is largely a puppet of Eteon’s unseen director.

Johnny Tran – Fast and Furious (2001)

Played by Rick Yune

Rick Yune as Johnny Tran in The Fast and the Furious.

Rick Yune’s Johnny Tran gets some credit for being the series’ first villain, and while he serves the story well, he’s not that interesting as a character. Fast and Furious is a film focused on the relationship between Paul Walker’s Brian and Vin Diesel’s Dom, and most of the other elements of the film are just window dressing for that story, including Johnny Tran.

Yune does his best with the material, but Johnny Tran is a type of villain that the franchise has done infinitely better at since. It also suffers from the fact that the first film is on a much smaller scale than the next. While Tran’s story of being the son of a wealthy family who participates in this illegal underworld is compelling on its own, it seems like very little when looking at the bigger picture. Quick saga.

Campos – Fast and Furious (2009)

Played by John Ortiz

Campos looks menacing in Fast and Furious

In addition to reuniting the main cast, Fast and Furious It doesn’t offer much that the other films don’t in terms of playing the drug kingpin who forms an uneasy partnership with the heroes. John Ortiz gives a menacing performance as Campos, a drug lord whose operation Dom and Brian must infiltrate, but nothing separates the character from most of the villains in the first four films. In fact, Ortiz himself played a similar character much more effectively in Michael Mann’s underrated film. Vice Miami film.

Part of the reason Campos is less memorable than other villains who play similar roles is that he never seems like much of a threat. He’s not as intimidating or charismatic as some of the other bad guys, making it seem like Dom and Brian could defeat him at any moment.. This is further solidified with his quick return appearance in Fast and Furious 6which makes it clear that he is not someone to be feared.

10

Carter Verone – 2 Fast 2 Furious (2002)

Played by Cole Hauser

Carter Verone (Cole Hauser) smiling after being shot in 2 Fast 2 Furious

As is the case with Campos, Verone is just a standard drug kingpin that the heroes need to take down. He also suffers from being in the only Fast and Furious film in which Dominic Toretto does not appear. Facing Brian and Roman just doesn’t give Verone’s story as much emotion as it could. However, there are some aspects that help the character stand out even in the lackluster sequel. 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Verone’s personal ties make him even more threatening, as his girlfriend is undercover cop Monica (Eva Mendes), who he keeps in constant danger. There’s also the intense torture scene in which Verone begins forcing rats to force their way into a man’s stomach. However, the best aspect of Verone as a villain is the performance of actor Cole Hauser. While 2 Fast 2 Furious It may be a slightly cheesy film, Hauser’s performance brings the necessary intensity. He would have stood out in a better film.

9

Jakande – Furious 7 (2015)

Played by Djimon Hounsou

Djimon Hounsou as Mose looking at the computer screen in Furious 7

Djimon Hounsou is an underrated actor who has spent years doing great work in smaller roles. No matter the size of his role, he can be counted on to deliver a committed and engaging performance. His brief performance as the evil Jakande in Furious 7 is a perfect example of how he elevates substandard material. Jakande is a terrorist who wants to use the God’s Eye, an all-powerful surveillance system, to wreak havoc on the world.

There isn’t much to Jakande’s character other than being generally diabolical. With Hounsou’s talents, it’s a shame he barely has time to really face off against the rest of the cast. It also hurts his position that Deckard Shaw is the most substantial threat in the game. Furious 7. Hounsou is always a delight to watch and it’s clear that Jakande would probably have been one of the franchise’s most forgettable villains if it weren’t for his performance.

8

Owen Shaw – Fast and Furious 6 (2013)

Played by Luke Evans

Owen Shaw drives a truck in Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6 is one of the most fun entries in the franchise. With incredible action scenes and a great emotional core, it has all the characteristics of a solid Fast and Furious film, with Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw being a big part of what makes it work so well. While this is the kind of role Evans could play in his sleep, the idea of an evil team that mirrors the main family is such a delightfully silly and cartoonish setup that it offsets all of the character’s clichés.

Evans delivers a diabolical and even slightly charming performance, making for a more practical main villain than Dom and his team are used to dealing with. While Owen may not be the best Shaw, he is one of the franchise’s most entertaining villains. Unfortunately, the series makes the mistake of having him briefly return to Deckard’s side in The Fate of the Furious to help Dom and his team, ruining much of the threat Owen posed.

7

Hernan Reyes – Five Fast (2011)

Played by Joaquim de Almeida

Reyes in Fast Five.

Not only did Five quick completely reinvent the franchise, but it still remains a high-water mark for the series and action cinema of the 2010s. Joaquim de Almeida’s Hernan Reyes is not a particularly deep character, but he is a despicable villain, and seeing the Fast Family Beating him is one of the most satisfying climaxes of the entire series. Reyes is as corrupt as they come, bribing almost all of Rio’s officials and ruling the city with an iron fist.

Reyes Gets to the Heart of Family Dynamics by Killing the Original Fast and Furious character, Vicentewhich immediately makes him stand out as one of the franchise’s greatest villains. Five quick hits the perfect note of silly and sincere, with Reyes’ evil, menacing presence being exactly what the film needed. The fact that his battle against Dom and Brian influences Fast in such a major way cements how memorable he was.

6

Cipher: The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Played by Charlize Theron

Cipher (Charlize Theron) on Dom's doorstep bloody and disheveled in Fast X

Most of the villains in Fast and Furious they either die after a movie or quickly change sides, becoming part of the family. This only makes Cipher all the more interesting as an evil genius who stuck around for a few entries. While Fast saw Cipher forced to work with Dom and company, she spent the last two films planning and making her way through the world. Charlize Theron is having a lot of fun in the role, and although she may not be in the best films, her charisma and commitment make up for some lackluster shots.

Cipher is a cruel and brilliant antagonist, impressing Dom’s sense of family in her first appearance, when she kidnaps his young son. She also proves that she is smarter than most of the other villains in the series, as she is kept in a cage most of the time. F9but it still often feels like she’s the one in charge. It will be exciting to see if she can be trusted as a supposed ally in Quick X Part 2.

5

Jacob – F9 (2021)

Played by John Cena

John Cena as Jakob in Fast & Furious 9 in front of blue smoke

THE Fast and Furious family trees are tangled and confusing. Almost every entry introduces some long-lost sibling or new child to one of the extended families, but John Cena’s Jakob is one of the best examples of this. Jakob first appeared in F9 as Dom’s despised brother, and although his existence still doesn’t make much sense, he was an excellent villain and one whose redemption felt deserved. Cena is one of the best wrestlers turned actor, and while Jakob was more fun as an ally in Fast X, its presence in F9 it elevated the entire film.

While it’s hard to buy into Cena and Vin Diesel as brothers, it’s a lot of fun to watch them go head-to-head. With Hobbs’ absence from the franchise for F9, Jakob plays the role of the antagonist who can face Dom and actually win. There are many Fast and Furious villains who became allies, but Jakob also stands out for having a change of heart in his first appearance.

4

DK – Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

Played by Brian Tee

DK faces Sean in Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift

Director Justin Lin reinvented the franchise on several occasions, but his first film in the series Tokyo DriftIt’s still one of the best and uses its smaller scale to its advantage. DK, short for Drift King, isn’t as evil as some of the more cartoonish villains that would appear later in the series, but he’s a great antagonist and an arrogant pilot that audiences want to see lose. Nephew of a mob boss, DK is one of Tokyo’s best street racers and an all-around villain who needs to be taught a lesson.

While lesser villains like Johnny Tran can get lost in the sheer size of Fast and Furious As the franchise grew, DK is a reminder of how effective it could be, even if it wasn’t a huge worldwide box office success. He’s an effective, menacing threat with his own understandable and compelling motivations. Brian Tee’s performance also adds layers to the character who can be dangerous but also insecure..

3

Hobbs – The Fast Five (2011)

Played by Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs being ambushed in Fast Five

Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs is best known for being a good guy in Fast and Furious universe, but when he was first introduced in Five quick, he was a no-nonsense force of nature, determined to bring Dom and his family to justice. As a villain, Johnson had to flex his acting skills a lot more, and Hobbs in Five quick it’s much more attractive than the softer, more pleasant one that appears in later entries. What’s more, Hobbs is one of the few antagonists who feels like he could take Dom down.

Hobbs’ arrival to the franchise helped make Five quick one of the best in Fast and Furious films. He was an intimidating and formidable threat to the heroes, but also a character the audience could root for. His raw determination to do his job no matter what makes him a man to be taken seriously, but it also makes his change of heart all the more effective.

2

Deckard Shaw – Furious 7 (2015)

Played by Jason Statham

Deckard Shaaw behind the wheel of a car in Fate of the Furious

Another villain-turned-protagonist, Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, was first introduced in the end credits scene of Fast and Furious 6where it was revealed that he was the one who apparently killed Han to get revenge for his hospitalized brother. Although this twist was retconned twice, Shaw was a menacing threat to the Fast Family, and his turn Furious 7 as the main villain he is still one of the best in the franchise.

Statham’s surprise introduction in that post-credits scene is still one of the film’s best moments. Fast and Furious franchise, while building excitement for this character’s arrival. When Shaw began his path of war, he proved himself to be an implacable and powerful enemy. Shaw plays to Statham’s strengths as an actor, and even as an ally, he adds a wonderful presence to the series.

1

Dante Reyes – Fast X (2023)

Played by Jason Momoa

Dante (Jason Momoa) smiling with his hair in buns in Fast X

In many ways, Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes is a rehash of the villains the series has done before. Like Deckard Shaw, he is a vengeful family member of a previous villain who goes after Dom’s loved ones. However, Momoa’s performance as the crazy Dante makes him not only stand out, but also become the best villain of the world. Fast and Furious. He is an unbalanced and even funny villain who feels like the Fast and Furious The films’ response to Joker.

Fast It had a troubled production that is reflected in the film, but Momoa’s performance makes the entire viewing experience worth it. While the towering actor could have easily been one of the franchise’s tough, muscular villains, it’s a wise film that they decided to go for something very different. Dante brought chaos and energy to a franchise that needed a new approach after 10 episodes.
