Alien theory reveals how Ridley Scott's next film could be Ripley vs. David Showdown we need

A final showdown between Ripley and David seems impossible given the franchise's timeline – but there's a compelling theory that could tie it together Alien greatest characters. Despite Alien: Alliance ending on a gigantic cliffhanger that positioned Michael Fassbender's android David 8 as the franchise's next villain, the sequel's mixed response nixed that plan. With his prequels, director Ridley Scott wanted to take the Foreigner film franchise in a new direction and explore themes like AI and creation versus creator.

It's fascinating to contrast the adventures of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley across her four films and those of Fassbender as David. Both are protagonists of their times, but while the latter tried to eliminate the Xenomorphs from existence, David essentially created them to exterminate humanity; according to Ridley Scott's opinion of the saga, at least. It looks like Scott won't be able to complete his prequel story, and the chances of uniting Fassbender and Weaver seem remote. Still, there is a way to do this that seems somehow plausible.

David's immortality means Ridley Scott's next alien movie could take place after the resurrection

David was created by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) who, in a desperate attempt to prolong his life, sought immortality by financing the Prometheus mission. Of course, all Weyland found at the end of the expedition was death and destruction, with the only survivor being his android assistant David. Despite believing himself above David, Weyland created a superior being with his android son. With maintenance, David is functionally immortal and is faster, stronger, and smarter than any human. Despite Covenant happening a decade later PrometheusDavid hasn't aged a day.

Alliance the ending was supposed to create a third prequel dubbed Alien: Awakening, which was later cancelled. The fate of David 8 within the series is unknownbut there's nothing to say it couldn't still be functional by the events of Alien Resurrection. As a quick refresher, this 1997 sequel resurrected Weaver's Ripley as a clone with Xenomorph-infused abilities, with the story taking place 200 years after the events of Alien 3.

If Ripley 8 is on an ongoing search for Xenomorphs after Resurrection, this will eventually put her and David on a collision course…

This would mean that almost 300 years have passed since the Prometheus mission, but If David can continue with minimal maintenance, a few hundred years won't mean much to him. This also means that he and Ripley 8 – as Ellen Ripley's clone was designated – could exist in the same timeline. If Ripley 8 is on an ongoing search for Xenomorphs, this would eventually put her and David on a collision course.

David's plan could span centuries in the alien timeline

Exterminating humanity is a slow process in the world of Alien

David was born with the inherent understanding that he was superior to his creators on every level. Still, the android had to bide his time and play nice, and it was only when he encountered the Engineer's black goo that he found a way to create his own perfect organism. Scott's prequels even imply that David created the version of the Xenomorphs that audiences know and love, and were his attempt to exterminate the human race and replace it with his concept of perfection.

Alien: Covenant The finale found David alone on a colony ship with thousands of sleeping colonists and a few face-hugging embryos. This suggested that his twisted experiments would continue, and there is a theory that suggests he could have been tinkering with the creatures for centuries. If so, maybe Ripley 8 will end up tracking down David to shut down his projects once and for all. In fact, it would be typical of David to take the time to launch his endgame when humanity least expects it.

As protagonists of their respective series, Ripley vs. David feels inevitable

A confrontation between the two biggest figures in Alien would be a real event

THE Foreigner series can be divided into different periods; there were the Ripley movies, the Alien vs Predator duology, the saga of David and more recently restarted with Alien: Romulus. Ripley and David are the most important figures of their respective erasbut while Ripley received an ending of sorts with ResurrectionDavid never did. Your story is incomplete and the next Alien: Romulus 2 this is unlikely to change. Still, a Ripley vs David movie would feel undeniably epic.

Having Alien ultimate heroine versus the creatures' creator, David (even though this point is up for debate) would feel like an immensely satisfying event. Scott was trying to make AI the series' main threat, with the android David intending to make the Xenomorphs a weapon of mass destruction. It's not inconceivable that he would spend centuries on such a task – or that Ripley would be the only one capable of stopping him.

David's experiments could also bring Ripley 8 out of the shadows to finish the job, destroying the Xenomorphs and David for good.

David was clearly in love with his creations in Covenanteven if they didn't live up to your expectations and were easily destroyed. If he had more than 200 years to tinker with his designs, this would be a uniquely apocalyptic event. This would also bring Ripley 8 out of the shadows to finish the job, destroying the titular Star Beasts. and David forever.

Ripley 8 killing David 8, progenitor of the Xenomorphs, would end her story

There would be incredible synergy in Ripley's clone destroying David

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley 8 looking shocked in Alien Resurrection.

Ripley's journey through the Foreigner saga saw her transform from a corporate drone into a soldier and from a messiah into a clone. There was something uniquely insulting about Weyland-Yutani bringing Ripley back to resurrect the Xenomorphbut whatever the flaws Resurrection were, Ripley 8's character never received her due. Having a version of Ripley combined with Alien DNA could have created a new era of the series, but a planned plan Alien 5 with the clone never came up.

Considering that they are creations of Weyland-Yutani and the most recognized protagonists of the series, having Ripley 8 taking down Davd 8 seems like it would tie up two important storylines at once. Assuming Sigourney Weaver would be open to a return, one Foreigner the sequel pairing her with the architect of the Xenomorphs would be a perfect way to sign off both characters.

That being said, Alien: Romulus 2 appears to be moving in a very different direction. It could follow the ongoing adventures of Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and her android brother Andy (David Jonnson) – although an easter egg reference to Ripley suggests the sequel could tie together different strands of the series. Nothing has been set for the next entry, so instead of letting the fates of two main characters like Ripley and David float in the ether, the next Foreigner may close some unfinished business.

Ridley Scott would also be the ideal choice to lead such a crossover and could finalize his Prometheus trilogy in style. This is a dream for now, as the Foreigner the series seems to be paving a new path for itself. Yet, Romulo contained many nods to Prometheus and the prequels, so David's return doesn't seem entirely out of the question either.
