Author James Patterson responded to the upcoming streaming series Cross Do not match any specific books of his series Alex CrossStarring the titular detective. The upcoming Prime Video TV show follows Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge), a detective and forensic psychologist returning to his investigative work one year after his wife, Maria, was murdered. While season 2 of the show was already confirmed before its premiere, Hodge previously confirmed that the show will not draw from any specific book in the series, instead opting for an original storyline.
Talk to Entertainment Weekly, Patterson said he was excited to see Cross Do not rely on any of the books in the Alex Cross Series To bring his character to life. The author also praised Hodge for his performance, explaining how he managed to balance the character’s serious work with being a family man. There’s something I say when anyone is developing one of my books or characters: I much prefer the story to be brand new. I hoped that the show would be a breakthrough and not dependent on the book, and it happened.

Since the new show will not draw from any direct source material, Cross May instead draw inspiration from multiple novels across Patterson’s series. This would help it stand out from other ongoing series on Prime Video, such as Richer Season 3, which prioritizes an accurate storyline to the Jack Richer The book is adapted. This also means that many twists can happen throughout the show, leading to a new lens on its main character unseen in the books or film adaptations so far.

Although it seems recognizable moments of the Alex Cross Books won’t be on the Prime Video show, Patterson’s excitement is a good sign that the Hodge-led series will be a fantastic addition to the franchise. Since season 2 has already been confirmed, it appears Cross Is something Amazon is already hedging their bets on, another sign of its quality. With a lot of exciting events to come as the series progresses, it should be interesting to see what season 1’s original mystery will be.
