The original Dr. Harry Vanderspiegel is shown only through flashbacks and hallucinations. When the alien Harry first lands on Earth, he kills the human Harry and takes his form, name and cabin by the lake on the outskirts of Patience, Colorado. Because Dr. Vanderspiel was such a loner, the people of Patience had very little reference to what would count as normal behavior for the man – who served the alien who took his life really well. The new Harry was able to integrate. and serve as the doctor of the city without arousing suspicion, even if he originally opposed the position.

The real Harry is very different to the alien who replaced him. Tudyk’s performance as the original Dr. Vanderspiegel demonstrates his versatility as an actor.. The interactions between both Harrys are incredibly limited, as the human version was killed very soon after their first encounter. So, Harry’s hallucinations where he talks to his victim are largely an extrapolation of what the show’s main character thinks Dr. Vanderspiegle would be like. Still, it’s fun to see Tuddick play such a vastly different role in the same Show.

The alien Harry was in very few obstacles after stealing Dr. Vanderspiel’s identity. The two main problems he had to solve were when the real Harry’s daughter showed up, and also when it was the original Dr. Vanderspiegel was responsible for the murder that was at the heart of Resident alien Season 1’s story.
