Deadpool and Wolverine It surpassed what were already very high expectations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I can only see three of the next Marvel films being able to break the $1 billion mark as the 2024 film. Deadpool and Wolverine to be a big release. Bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and finally he and Ryan Reynolds shared the screen as faithful versions of their characters. Deadpool and WolverineCameos also kept interest in the film high, and it was the first R-rated MCU film focused on mutants.
All of these elements were worth it, as Deadpool and Wolverine broke several major records before its release, with several trailer records broken, and after, as the film became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Deadpool and Wolverine was the only MCU film of 2024, remaining a major source of excitement for Marvel fans in a year when the franchise slowed down. However, the MCU is expected to have a busy few years ahead. Despite the greater number of Marvel films coming out soon, I’m convinced only three can match Deadpool and Wolverineis success.
Deadpool and Wolverine continue to show what makes the MCU’s greatest films
The Marvel film had many elements that contributed to its success
Deadpool and Wolverine is one of the most ambitious films in the MCU. While it has a fairly straightforward story, the film is one of the few that actually used the MCU’s Multiverse Saga to the best of its ability. Essentially a shared journey between Deadpool and Wolverine in the Void, the MCU film became a resounding success by including climactic action set pieces, emotional moments, hilarious character dynamics, characters from the multiverse, and plenty of surprises along the way. Since superhero movies are no longer new, those hoping to reach $1 billion will have to really stand out.
Throughout the Multiverse Saga, the MCU has seen some very successful films, although many others have underperformed. For example, The wonders became the lowest-grossing film in the MCU, even below many other films that I don’t consider better than the Captain Marvel sequence in any way, like Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World. The message the MCU received is that for a film to surpass the $1 billion mark, it has to be a big event or include fan favorite characters/stars. Like the Avengers movies and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Deadpool and Wolverine understood the task.
MCU Film History Teases Three Top Candidates for Next Marvel Movie to Earn More Than $1 Billion
The MCU’s biggest franchise will return soon
Based on lessons learned Deadpool and WolverineDespite the success of MCU and the other MCU films that managed to surpass the coveted $1 billion mark, I see three of the franchise’s upcoming projects being able to achieve the same level of success. One of the biggest problems in the Multiverse Saga has been the absence of the Avengers. The team’s absence is felt both in terms of story, as the characters were spread out and many of them spent years without appearing, and financially, as each Avengers film managed to earn at least US$1 billion worldwide, with the last two earning more than US$2 billion.
That’s why I’m convinced the next two Avengers films should easily pass $1 billion. The films are expected to feature many characters from the multiverse, interactions between heroes and shocking twists, and with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU, now as Doctor Doom, they will be huge. What is more Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: EndgameThe other upcoming MCU film that I can see capable of reaching at least $1 billion is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4. Both of the most recent Spider-Man films hit that mark, and if the Spider-Men multiverse returns, Spider-Man 4 could hit $2 billion.
The MCU’s Future Plans Could Make Its Next Three Chances to Break $1 Billion Even More Likely
Marvel Studios has changed its focus
The MCU has decided to make some changes following the problems of Phase 4. This includes the TV side of Marvel Studios undergoing an overhaul, with projects having longer development pipelines and formal showrunners being hired, and a slowdown on the film side. Marvel will now release fewer films per yearand the studio’s focus going forward will be on the MCU’s most popular franchises and characters. Marvel’s new approach to how it develops films makes it easier for the franchise to have more films surpass the coveted $1 billion mark.
After some MCU films bombed at the box office during the Multiverse Saga, it appears Marvel understands what it needs to do to correct course.
As Deadpool and Wolverineand, Most of Marvel’s upcoming films are focused on the studio’s biggest charactersincluding Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and Spider-Man. Recently, Kevin Feige teased the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU, and the team already has a film in development for later Avengers: Secret Wars. After some MCU films failed at the box office during the Multiverse Saga, it seems that Marvel has understood what it needs to do to correct course and so I believe that after the next two Avengers films and Spider-Man 4More MCU films could surpass $1 billion as Deadpool and Wolverine he did.
