After 80 years, DC just made a smart change to the Batcave

Notice! Spoilers for Batman and Robin: Year One #2!Few locations in the DC Universe, no matter how iconic, are as popular as from Batman Batcave. Bruce Wayne keeps all his trophies in the Batcave – as well as his arsenal, which allows him to fight crime. It’s always seemed like the Batcave allows Batman to do everything except travel around Gotham, and now, as DC has just revealed, he can do that too.

During his first year with Robin, Batman shows him most of his tricks and how he gets around Gotham City. While Robin initially believes that Batman has a ton of different Batcaves, Bruce reveals that he actually only has one, as seen in Batman and Robin: Year One #2 by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee.

Batman reveals that his ability to seemingly appear from the shadows is actually due to the Batcave. The Batcave is not a singular cave, but a giant network that expands throughout Gotham City, allowing Batman to use the cave as an entrance to anywhere in Gotham City, seemingly allowing him to simply appear from the shadows.

Discovering the Batcave was an important part of Bruce Wayne’s childhood. Most interpretations have him falling into the cave while exploring the grounds of Wayne Manor, also inspiring his surprising fear of bats, as he was quickly surrounded by them. Decades later, when Bruce was deciding to wage his war on crime, he returned to the cave and transformed it into the Batcave, one of the largest superhero bases in comics. Over the years, the Batcave has been inconsistent in its size, but DC definitely showed how big the place really is.

The Batcave has many entrances. You can enter through Wayne Manor into several different areas; has an opening for vehicles, usually behind a waterfall; It even has an entrance that leads to the Gotham River. All of these openings allow Batman to get around Gotham quickly, but this new reveal goes a step further. Batman claims that there are several entrances to the Batcave that connect to abandoned buildings that Wayne Enterprises purchased, allowing Batman to appear throughout Gotham City, seemingly appearing from the shadows as he exits one of these buildings.

Comic panel: Batman explains how he can appear in the shadows

Batman has extensive ninja training, so no one really questioned how he was able to randomly appear in the shadows. It wasn’t really a question worth asking, but DC still took the time to provide an explanation. Gotham City is a big city; Having access to random buildings around the city is a fantastic way to appear without being seen. As Batman himself states, the Batmobile has a habit of announcing itself. Although most fans have never given much thought to how Batman appears around the city, DC still managed to give a very satisfactory answer.
