After being ordered to retrieve biomaterial from another planet, he is betrayed by another team member and ends up trapped and slowly decaying on Ego the Living Planet. Eating a mysterious plant created by Ego, Romero undergoes a shocking and terrifying transformation that turns him into an abominable red beast filled with rage and raw power.
When the beginning of the new Red Hulk swaps gamma radiation for the Power Primordial, Ross Romero seemingly becomes one of the strongest and strongest Hulk in Marvel history. As Romero merges with Ego, his red suit attaches to himself to create the crimson techno-organic monster. The artist and character designer of this issue for the new Red Hulk, Pete Woods, drew inspiration from not only Jack Kirby but legendary artists and Alien Xenomorph designer HR Giger to create a strange Marvel hero that even surpasses the strange nature of the original Bruce Banner Hulk.
