After 47 years, I think Star Wars is finally making up for one of New Hope’s most intriguing lines

Star Wars just gave us our first look Andor season 2, and it looks like it could fulfill an intriguing thread from the original Star Wars film. The landmark and fan favorite Andor the first season dealt with the establishment of the galaxy under Imperial rule. Forces such as Luthen Rael’s rebel network and the Imperial Security Office were making stealth moves against each other as unrest steadily grew.

While the second season of the spy drama series appears to continue, it also brings much more into play, particularly the establishment and early years of the Rebel Alliance. This topic has been described, represented, and explained in several other places, including the animated film Star Wars Rebels series. One scene from the new footage, however, makes a surprising development possible.

Andor Season 2 Looks to Present a Glimpse of Dantooine

A rebel base before Yavin

When we first met Rebel Alliance command in A New Hopethey are based on the jungle moon Yavin 4, orbiting the large red gas giant Yavin. This is Base One and has been seen in many Star Wars stories, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – and even this same teaser. Before they reached Yavin 4, however, the Rebel Alliance had other bases, one of which was on Dantooine.

The new footage in question shows a single shot of familiar characters Bix Caleen and Wilmon Paak, alongside a new character, in a field of tall grass.. Many fans have theorized that this is the planet Lothal, central to Rebelsbut it is even more likely to be the planet Dantooine. This planet, introduced in the original Star Wars film, has exactly that atmosphere – and it would make perfect sense in a show that predates the events of the original trilogy.

Dantooine was mentioned in the OT… but only appeared correctly years later

Knights of the Old Republic and Clone Wars

Well-remembered fans will remember the name Dantooine from Princess Leia’s confession to Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope. Leia mentions Dantooine as the location of the Rebel Alliance base faced with the threat of destroying his home world, but Tarkin goes ahead with his threat anyway. This planet was a former rebel base and was only shown on screen much later.

Now, however, Dantooine has appeared all over the world Star Warsmainly in animated content of different formats and comic books. Notably, in Star Wars Legends, Dantooine served as a key planet in the Knights of the Old Republic games, such as the location of the secret Jedi Enclave. It was also featured in Mace Windu’s iconic early sequences in Genndy Tartakovsky’s original film Clone Wars lively show, and was the site of a crucial battle in the much more recent Star Wars Resistance.

Andor’s inclusion of Dantooine points to a very different season

The approaches of the original trilogy

The rebel base on Dantooine was a great choice for Leia during her interrogation because it had been abandoned shortly before the events of A New Hope – and Andor can show us this foundation in action. It appears that Bix, Wilmon and probably Cassian Andor himself will be on Dantooine, at the Rebel Alliance base. This type of connection, however, points to a very different time of life. Andor than the first.

Andor season 2 is scheduled to take place over 4 years, leading up to A New Hopewith each 3-episode arc taking place over a year. This includes Dantooine, Yavin 4 as seen in the teaser, more connections to the original trilogy, and tons of connections to Star Wars Rebels. There is a probability of a direct link with Rebels as well, with Mon Mothma’s escape from Coruscant likely being depicted this season.

Overall, the probability of Dantooine appearing in Andor season 2 looks high, with Yavin and more elements of Rebels probably joining the fray too. We could see Hera Syndulla and the rest of the Ghost Crew in live action, and maybe even Princess Leia herself as Andor arrives until Rogue One in linking to the original trilogy. Because of this attention to detail, like Dantooine, but also the story that comes so close to Star Warscore, fans won’t want to miss Andor season 2.

Andor the second season premieres April 22 on Disney+.
