Abrams’ New Mystery Movie Starring Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega & More Is Something We’ve Been Waiting For 13 Years

Famous director JJ Abrams is currently developing a new film with a shockingly star-studded cast, and for a number of reasons, this is the director’s most exciting project in years. Abrams first entered the film and TV scene in the early 1990s as a writer. However, His big break came in 2004, when he co-created the science fiction mystery series, Lost, which is still considered one of the best shows of the 2000s. From there, Abrams began directing major Hollywood blockbusters, but after a few bumps in the road, the director has gone quiet in recent years.

For the first time since 2019, Abrams is returning to the director’s chair with a new original film. At this time, very little is known about this film other than its genre and its excellent cast. Apparently, the film is a mystery and will star Glen Powell, Jenna OrtegaEmma Mackey and Samuel L. Jackson. Additionally, the film is being produced by Abrams’ own company, Bad Robot. Even with so little information, Abrams’ new film is incredibly exciting, especially when you consider the director’s unique history in Hollywood.

Why Abrams hasn’t made an original film in so long

This film is super 8, which follows a group of teenagers who are filming a movie when they witness a catastrophic and supernatural accident. Many may be wondering why it took so long for this to happen. The simplest answer is that Abrams rose to fame too quickly. After driving successfully Mission: Impossible III, Abrams had the chance to direct two major sci-fi franchises: Star Trek and Star Wars. While Abrams’ franchise films made a lot of money and a lot of critical success, they also received backlash from fans who didn’t like the direction he was taking in these film series. Ultimately, this prevented him from pursuing his own projects and even making films for a few years.

JJ Abrams’ new movie could get his career back on track

Abrams’ new film already looks optimistic

After the disappointments with the franchise and its brief hiatus, Abrams’ new film could be the project that moves his career forward again. While many are probably still frustrated with how Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker came out, it’s been a few years and hopefully Abrams might get a second chance. If his new film is compelling and well-made, he could find himself on the same path to fame that he found in the 2010s. Arguably, he deserves it. Abrams is a very strong storyteller and director.

Happily, Abrams’ film already has a solid foundation. Abrams himself is a great filmmaker, but his cast is also a strong point. Powell and Ortega have a lot of star power at the moment due to their successful franchises recently, i.e. Twisted and Wednesday. Plus, Jackson is always a powerhouse and Mackey has a growing fan base. In this way, JJ Abrams has the opportunity to regain his star power and already appears to be on a solid path.
