Kirkman and Ottley chose the perfect character to expand the Invincible Universe
Battle Beast first appeared in comics in Invincible #19 (2004)
Invincible is known for its wide cast of characters, giving Kirkman and Ottley plenty of spinoff options to choose from. However, there's no denying that their decision to delve into Battle Beast was the right one. Initially, this character, whose fate was unknown, could easily have been a punctual and inconsequential figure, destined for a quick and brutal end. But, as Ottley laments, “Battle Beast became a fan favorite and lived to tell a greater story!” As one of the most powerful and complex characters in Invincible Universe, fans will no doubt celebrate his return in his own solo series.
Robert Kirkman: “What can I say? I just can't get enough of Invincible Universe! Going from the comic series directly to the animated series, I didn't really catch a break. That being said, while adapting the series for animation, I was eager to do something new! Longtime fans will know that there is a big gap in Battle Beast's appearances in the series between issue 19 and issue 55 of Invincible. There's a lot of story to tell and I couldn't be more thrilled to have Battle Beast co-creator Ryan Ottley on board. count on me!”
Ryan Ottley: “When Robert and I first created Battle Beast in issue #19 of Invincible as a way to add to Invincible's rogues gallery, I wasn't sure if he would be a big character who would return throughout the series, or a character who would die a gruesome and bloody death immediately. Robert always kept me and the readers on their toes, he could command a death at any moment, and you know I would always jump at the chance to pull off the visual execution! Beast became a fan favorite and survived to tell a bigger story. It's amazing to work with Robert again on Invincible Universe. I'd been telling him for a while that I wasn't sure what project to do next and when he mentioned it. a Battle Beast series together, I had the idea to return to a creator-owned book, further expanding the Invincible Universe. I'm so happy to be back at Image Comics and Skybound, and I can't! wait for you to see the story we are developing in this series. I haven’t had this much fun since Invincible!”
